Power of Two: Strategic Pairing of Gifts and Callings

People try to connectPower of Two: Strategic Pairing of Gifts and Callings

Doug Addison

Ever wonder why God lines you up with certain people and not others? God is strategic when aligning people’s gifts and callings. The power of two extends to strategic business relationships.

There is power in combining the calling and resources of two unique people. Check out where Isaiah 11:2 gives a description of several aspects of the Spirit of the Lord:

  • The Spirit of wisdom and understanding
  • The Spirit of counsel and power
  • The Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord

Notice they are mentioned in pairs. By strategically pairing gifts and callings, God will take the effectiveness of your calling and increase it dramatically.

Godly designed matches

Husbands and wives can be a vitally important, specifically designed match to promote a key area of impact in God’s Kingdom.

This can mean that one spouse may take on a supportive role, enabling the other spouse to have a higher impact. Other marriages operate as a team. In Luke 10:1, Jesus sent out seventy-two of His disciples to minister, purposefully sending them in teams of two.

Making sacrifices and providing stability so that another person may serve God is super powerful. Not all ministry couples share the role of being in front of crowds.

My story

My wife, Linda, provides emotional support that I lacked for years. With her, I am now able to fulfill my higher calling. Although she is not up front ministering with me, she brings wisdom. I tend to operate in understanding the bigger picture of how things fit together. She has counsel and I operate in power (remember Isaiah 11:2 above?). There are many other areas where we complement each other’s gifts.

My challenge to you:

  1. Take a look at your own unique gifts, talents and desires.
  2. Now look at the people or businesses God’s surrounded you with right now.
  3. Where has God placed you to be matched up with the right people to increase your depth of knowledge, relationships, anointing?

God is increasing your power within this wonderfully crafted combination of you and another. Flow with God’s grace in it.

Another happily-ever-after God story

I know a man in ministry who became a widower a few years ago. God brought a woman to him who is much younger than he. She had been divorced years ago and was waiting for God to bring a new marriage to her. Their marriage was a strategically paired Divine Alliance. As they came together, their marriage was for the purposes of ministry and expanding God’s Kingdom. She is an intercessor, getting words of knowledge, while he has a prophetic gift. They minister together. As he teaches, she gets words of knowledge for ministering to people and for his writing.

Not all marriages will function this way, but there will be a dramatic increase in ones like this over the next few years.

I am divorced and God has paired me with a man of God also single. Our gifting and connection and heart for ministry is so amazing but I have not encountered this as singles. I am his ever kenegdo and we share such a deep love and respect for each other. Is it possible this is all it is or is it that God has him so focused on ministry and God until this is more walked out and flowing, blinders as it were…

This speaks directly to me. I truly believe that God has spoken to me recently about making certain sacrifices in my marriage in order to stay focused and make sure that His will gets done in my life, my spouse, and also impacts other households in order to build up His kingdom. I believe I heard God speak about not getting distracted by things such as lack of communication and just many other thing that tend to distract the normal ideal couple … He has assured m that He has it covered. I am free to stay in prayer and hearken to the voice of God in order to support and encourage my husband better in his endeavors. I will be very audacious and have the audacity to deal with things hat others wouldn’t even imagine, just to accomplish the will of God on behalf of myself and others. Glory to God!!! It’s scary but exciting!

My husband Jason is 6’5″, white, and is a previous football player. I am 5’10” African American and a previous executive workaholic. When we got married people prophesied that we would be a prophetic act of God unifying the world. That “the world will become one, will be our mission.” We always thought they said that simply because we are a bi-ethnic couple who had NOTHING in common but the spirit of God.

We moved to Redding last year after a prompting from the Lord, found out about bethel and have been plugged in ever since. It seems the Lord has given me(Amanda) the role to be in front, I’ve got a governmental call on my life and have been honored in the state of California after only having been here 6 mos. J has taken on the more “supportive” role. He is mantled with administration, can organize anything and we recently had an encounter with God where the Lord told us he will be commissioner of the NFL. A true dream come true, when it happens. I never liked sports not te government, I love missions and pastoring people’s hearts, my husband has always desired to be wealthy, I’ve only cared to be debt free… The list goes on, but somehow WE FIT. People meet us and they commend us on how well we go together.

I give all this back story to say, as a bi-ethnic couple and as a female being the one called to be “up front” it has been difficult to find examples or even encouragements of that fact. I am incredibly thankful J and I read this blog, it was encouraging to hear a purpose behind God’s strategy in doing so.

Your revelation on this matter clicks with my spirit. This devine connection I have experienced many times in business and with Brothers and Sisters. But always
aware of a deeper connection yet to come.
That deeper connection is found in marriage. I have been single for 20 years now.
At 59 one might think I would give up. But I know whats in my spirit and I know that
connection will come. I was a simple country girl when I married and didn’t know for
a year that my husband was an alcoholic.I plowed through the bruised kidney, concussion
and sexual betrayal for 8 years. Then I moved on and found a man who claimed to
love God. A Pastor in fact. He kicked me out of our house 7 months with child and married his “live in house keeper”. If you think of marriage as two horses paired in harness then it is
obvious that I’ve had my fill of dragging dead horses and donkeys. 🙂 But I know there
is another clydsdale out there. Two are better than one. I look forward to that devine
connection and the things God can do with that. Marriage for marriage sake is meaningless.
But a devine connection…..is worth waiting for.

With all the negativity on marriage these days what a beautiful idea God had,
“Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven
No wonder the enemy is working overtime to kill and steal the power of two. I have a dear friend who helped me through a painful divorce. She came along side of me when I couldn’t stand. Both her and her husband have a “builder” anointing and that’s exactly what she did, she built me back up. I on the other hand had wisdom for some areas of her life that she needed help with. Over the past 10 years we have seen huge growth in both of our lives and I know its because of the pairing of the gifts God gave us and the using of them to help each other. Thank you God!

    Doug,

You have no idea how inspiring you are to the Body of Christ! Your prophetic gift is at a level I haven’t seen before! You seem so pure and you just seem to flow in the anointing of the Holy Spirit with ease. It is so hard to find purity in believers! I am just amazed what God has done in your life. You truly shine with God’s glory and make this world a better place. Thank you so much for all your hard work! I pray that God will reward you 100 fold in this life and next! I honor you and your wife as servants of God. May God’s blessings flow in every area of life like flood and overtake you from now on! God bless you!

I have been married for almost 4 years now and this is something that I have discerned. I am called to teach, write and prophesy. My husband is called into ministry too but he doesn’t quite know which area he will function except that he received a prophecy that he is to be a prophet in the spirit of Isaiah (he got this prophecy before he met me). One day we were praying and I began to be prophetic and the words that came out of my mouth were “Isaiah spoke about the 1st coming of the Lord, but you will speak about His 2nd.” I was not thinking that at all and was just as ignorant of what that prophecy had meant as he was, until those words came out of my mouth. Anyway, I have seen how since I have married my husband, I have helped him to deal with and solve certain situations and I am flooded with wisdom to give to him. He is very kind hearted and patient whereas I am very discerning and use wisdom in my judgments of people and situations. I still have to see how God will fully use him – and oh by the way – my husband is 13 years older than I am 🙂 So this is what you have spoken about above. I know that we complement each other now and when we will be functioning in our relative ministries. By the way, I want to be world famous and he doesn’t mind being on the back burner, working behind the scenes for Jesus LOL – fits good together right? 🙂 But I honor him and want him to be great and I respect him as the head of our marriage and home. Thank you Doug for all of your wisdom 🙂

Fantastic word, Doug. I heard someone say once that you’ll never see a D.L. Moody without an Ira Sankey. And I have noticed lately that it is true, even in small arenas. As the Lord has been bringing me closer into the fullness of His call on my life over the last few years, He has been connecting me with people that are kindred spirits – covenant friends and co-ministers, so that we can do this thing TOGETHER. I’m in awe of Him and how He works.

    Thanks for writing!

As our 30th anniversary approached, I felt the Lord say that the next 30 would be “more fuller” than the last 30. I was shaken because our last 30 years were very full with raising and educating 4 children. We were stepping into empty-nesting and I wondered how in the world could the next 30 be “more fuller”! Well, 2 years have flown by and I continue to pray in the “more fuller” with expectancy. Sometimes it comes with just having a blast learning to Salsa together! Really excited about what the Lord is doing – in our lives – and around this wonderful world He created. Blessings!

Doug, i have been greatly encouraged by your prophesies. God has been speaking about bringing a life partner and i used to be confused. What if he did not like me praying too much or even serving the Lord. I just got back fr having dinner with an old friend and i was telling my friend that i dont seem to find someone who knows how to plug in to talk to me about spiritual things. I I usually dont open up on this subject very well but i told my friend that i m going to ask the Lord to send me a godly life partner and here i read your email about pairing in Ministry. Tq for that word and God bless u. Plse pray that when he comes i will know that he is fr the Lord.

Thank you for this post. It is very encouraging. I am still waiting on my God-given other half. I have often messed mine up by not necessarily rushing… But just have never had success in the area of relationships with men. I believe more than likely it has something to do with my calling. Finally I had a dream of seeing myself in a beautiful wedding gown. I could never see myself in a wedding gown let alone being married although it is a strong desire in me to be a wife. I’m a little up in age. I pray my time comes soon. Please keep me in your prayers. An encouraging word would be great. Thank you for all your blogs and posts Doug!!!

Yea, and then there are those non-divine alliances when people marry the wrong person. When they withhold information before marriage to get you to marry them and say it was God. So many are married to the wrong person not fulfilling their highest and best calling. It’s painful to say the least.

Doug, I just loved you man and how God has us flowing together so very often. On this past Saturday, Sept 13th I did a training/seminar “Counseling God’s Way” with a woman who I flow well with; and I’m often a guess speaker in classes she teaches at one of the local Universities.

Well on Saturday I finished in prayer imparting the pairing you gave out of Isa 11:2! Two is better than one. Also, last Sunday, September 7th I recommended to a friend of mine, a business man your book Divine Alliances; he took a picture of the cover. I’ve recommended this book to several people since reading it and buying it from you on 3-16-14 in Arkon, Oh, the last time I seen you! Blessings and Peace my friend

good, made me question things, I have had a terrible year of battle, and lost someone whom I thought I would marry and in the year, God laid on my heart a vision of us being back together, she is now in a relationship with a man who is a Christian also, who has split up from his wife, and I feel the pairing is wrong! that he should be back with his wife, and kids. My ex got in touch, and a prophetic word from Doug last week was everything I had been praying for, Healing and Reconciliation;, am kind of defeated right now, as it backfired, and my ex has shut down comms, so despondent, first time in my life I felt the Lord utter insight into a vision I had of us being together and using us in some way… I must have got it totally wrong!

This is exactly how my husband and I operate. We work well together in ministry. Not one is greater than the other. We compliment each other. Kinda like a balance beam. When he is low, I lift him up, when I am low he lifts me up. When we are both high, we say, there is no high like the most high. LOL.

As a profectic worshipper and intersessary/ prayer warrior, I am royalty living in the provision of Gods goodness. God has set a Unity anoiting upon me, to being Unity wherever he sends me. The promise of love after years of the desert trusting and leaning on my beloved’s promises has now come. Cardinals were romancing my heart for a few years and then the priest comes into my life and he starts seeing cardinals as well. A prophet lead by the Holy SSpirit and a Episcopal preist? How can this be? God what are you paring up here. Oh but I see a deep well of love and revelation. Moses bringing them out of the wilderness and unity bringing together the North and the South. And so the water of life will flow from the unity that is coming. Whatever your will is heavenly father let it be and not let us question your plans. So I continue to trust him intil the day that we become one.

My husband of 23 years left me about 8 years ago. We were in ministry. About 4 years ago the Lord paired me up with another man in ministry. He also was left by his wife. I can say that the Lord has used our giftings for each other and was very powerful. We have always been very respectful of each other and have learned alot. We have always had a fair amount of people around in our gatherings and kept things very honorable and clean. All of my friends at one time or another thought we were just made for each other and wow, what a wonderful match! This really isn`t the case as there are no bells and whistles going off in this girl and would certainly know if there were. About 4 months ago I had a man whom was very interested in me and my so called ministry partner tried everything to ruin any connection he thought could happen. I am not trying to write a soap opera here ,but all that to say….. Sometimes we can stay too long! I know our flesh can get the best of us at times, so now I am in the process of trying to keep my integrity and be tactful about backing up a little. I admit I was offended at him and had to address this, but it really did make me not have the trust in him that I once had. All that to say….. still love, but know when to move on. Blessings to you Doug

Hi. What an encouraging word. Made me think. I am experiencing this in my workplace with a colleague. He has a desire and passion for the Lord similar to me, but we have different gifts. When he is down, I lift him up, and he does the same for me. We inspire and build each other up in the Lord. I also found that we receive similar promptings from the Holy Spirit and we are always on the same wavelength spiritually, but have different expressions of the same Word. This type of appointed unions as you mention, seem to be prevalent in my life right now. Some are stronger than others, yet equally beneficial for both people involved. There’s always something to learn and share with the other person. Those relationships that are not benefiting me spiritually have taken on a lesser role in my life, and partly because of me, but also because of some sort of Divine intervention. Thank you for this revelation. God is truly revealing His direction and love for me/us in these partnerships. Much love, Winifred.

This why I believe my marriage ended after 29 yrs, although I would have stayed with her forever. I have been christian for 47 yrs, was called by God when I was 14 and for many years served Him. However I was never comfortable with the prophesies God was speaking into my life, which has now been for 30 yrs. So much so I actually scuppered His plans for many times because I felt unworthy. Since the breakdown of my marriage, God has done an amazing work of healing in my life and has broken many walls down. I’m now ready to do what He wants me to do. God has spoken to me so much over the last 2 yrs and I know although I have failed Him many times, His plan for me hasn’t changed and Iv’e been in awe of His grace. However I know I can’t do this on my own and need someone in my life. God has made it very clear that my marriage was right for a time and although I would love her back and although it’s not what she wants, God has made it clear she can’t go where go He is taking me anyway. I just need some direction really as I know things are about to kick off big time, as in a move of God like we have never seen before and I know God has a strategic part for me to play, which I still am not totally comfortable with, but I will always choose to obey Him.

Mark, After reading your post I wanted to encourage you to listen for Gods voice, leading, and timing. I don’t believe God would tell you to divorce your wife so he can exalt you. Thats a complete contradiction to the very nature and blessing marriage was created to be. It goes against the very nature of who He is. I would caution you to esteem yourself and rather walk humbly with God. Let Him raise you up if thats His plan.

      Hi Mark
It sound as though the Lord wants you to be closer to Him in real terms and bring you to a place in your life where He can change you to the person He originally created you to be. Oh, He has plans for you alright, no doubt about that but He will always prepare you first. He will always teach you what you need to know and, with your surrender and obedience, He will do exceedingly good things. Go at His pace. Listen to Him. Talk to Him with an open, honest heart. Be patient. He will take you where you need to go and open gates for you. You are His son who He loves dearly and He gives the best to His children. God bless you.
