How to Get Your Financial Strategy In This Time of Repayment

Walt Disney once said, “We don’t make movies to make money, we make money to make more movies.”

His goal was not to get rich, but instead, to fund his life calling. He influenced the world with his movies. And having the right attitude, Disney is now a multi-billion-dollar business.

A strategic time in history

Very few people saw the housing downturn coming in 2008. Tragically, many people lost their homes due to the greed of people in the banking industry. But some people got a strategy from God, and were actually able to make money during that time. In 2008, my wife and I sold our home during the downturn and made $30,000 that helped our ministry.

I am prophesying this: We are in a time of repayment from the losses over the past few years. God is opening new heavenly gates and providing people new jobs because of the efforts of people like Bill Gates and Steve Jobs. They helped develop computers and the Internet, and we are in a strategic time to change the world using these tools.

Getting healed of money issues

To positively influence the world, it will take a mindset change, and for many people, financial healing. We need to get rid of greed and a tightwad-miser attitude. We also need to get out of poverty mindsets and guilt about having money.

There are many misunderstandings about money.

“For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.” 1 Timothy 6:10 NIV

This verse is often misquoted as, “Money is the root of all evil.” However, it is not money itself that is the problem; it is the love of money—which is greed and idolatry.

If you can deal with these issues, then God can bring more money into your life. That is often why God will not give you all of the money you need, all at once. He wants to be sure that you understand true wealth is found in God’s love and wisdom.

Getting financial breakthrough

God wants to make sure you can handle a financial breakthrough. If you can be trusted with earthly wealth, then you can be trusted with Kingdom wealth.

“Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much. So if you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches? And if you have not been trustworthy with someone else’s property, who will give you property of your own?” Luke 16:10–12 NIV

The Apostle Paul said, “And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of His glory in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19 NIV. This does not mean that it is automatic and that we do not need to do things to make money. Paul himself had a tent-making business that he used to fund his ministry.

God gave me a strategy

In 1991, God was calling me to start new churches and a ministry that would help change people with God’s love, power, and acceptance. But I was in debt and working a corporate job that I had little energy for. God gave me a strategy to start a business that has helped fund our ministry efforts over the years.

When God first called me to start making money for Kingdom purposes, and once I got into ministry, a lot of people judged me. You have to have your heart in the right place.

However, Christians often feel guilty about making money. We need to break off guilt about being blessed and break off a limiting mindset.

We need to go beyond just getting by and get to a place where we can help supply the needs of other people, finance the works of the Kingdom of God—including ministries and missions, while caring for our own families.
