Doug Addison with Brad Cummings About ‘The Shack’ [Episode 11]

Have you heard mixed reactions about The Shack? That stereotype-busting book that got people talking about how they perceive God was just released as a movie last month—making the conversation even livelier!

I’ve released prophetic words about a new anointing coming from Heaven on movies and music. This anointing will open the Father’s heart and release the Holy Spirit right into theaters, bringing emotional and even physical healing.

God is actually using Hollywood to create spiritual movies that are not stories from the Bible; and The Shack unveils God’s heart to today’s spiritually starved culture. And it asks us to reconsider the question: What does God really look like?

In this week’s Spirit Connection podcast episode, my special guest is Brad Cummings, a co-author of The Shack and a producer of the movie. Today you’ll hear his heart about the film and answers to these common questions:

  • Why are Christians so divided about how God is portrayed on screen?
  • Can God use secular movies to deliver spiritual messages?
  • Why do people have a hard time seeing God as a loving father?
  • How have unbelievers responded to the movie?
  • Is it possible to receive healing just by watching a movie?
  • Can emotional healing open the door to physical healing?
  • Is The Shack theologically correct?

The movie was incredibly healing and so encouraging! The Lords heart for us was so clear in the movie which is the biggest thing of all and therefore the potential is off the charts! I can’t wait for it to come out on video! So many of us will be able to really take advantage of the movie as the amazing tool that it is! God bless all those who hand their hand in it from start to finish!

I met Wayne Jacobsen while visiting my hometown in Maryland and he described the heart he and Brad shared of wanting to meet people where they were at. I have taken three groups to see the movie and most were unbeliever’s. They cried at length afterward and kept stating, “I have never seen a movie like this before”. I love the fact that Brad and Wayne want to meet people in their hardship and pull them out while bringing God deeply safe to hearts. I dream of writing a book that becomes a screenplay and Wayne encouraged me to stay close to Papa’s heart and imagine the possibilities with Him. This podcast is so important for the world and the time in which we live. Thank you for being transparent!

I loved the book and have not yet seen the movie. Christians need to realize that it is FICTION being used to get people to see God in a new fresh loving way. Just as C.S Lewis’ “The Chronicles of Narnia” can be viewed from a Biblical frame of mind and have the lion, Aslan, portray a Christ-like figure, so can this book and movie do the same. I am in favor of anything that points us to our Savior, Jesus Christ, the working of the Holy Spirit in our lives and of course, the LOVE of our Father.

I appreciate your input. This podcast touches base on the film being theologically correct near the last ten minutes.
The main focus of the film was showing the heart of God in a fictional story and answering some tough questions many struggle with.

God is not a cookie cutter God. He meets people where and through what can reach them. I loved the book–especially the wisdom encounter and liked it in the movie too. So much about the movie was better than the book. Because of the care and love Father God put into the creators of the movie. Thank you for this interview.

Thank you so much for getting this good info out there for people. Years ago when The Shack came out as a book, I disregarded it because of the Christian community. I did not think it was relevant to me and I wanted to avoid anything that mainstream Christianity called into question. Well, the movie came out and I saw blogs in my Facebook feed about the heresy in The Shack. I did not even read the blogs and again, just avoided the movie completely. But, God kept bringing the movie across my path. People I respected started telling me about how the movie impacted them. I decided to read the book. Well, I loved it! It rang true to my spirit and I recognized the voice of the the Spirit. So, I saw the movie and it impacted me so greatly. I just fell in love with the Father, Son, and Spirit all over again! I have been a Christian for 40 years and I am so glad that God is awakening people like you, Doug, as well as Brad and others to reveal God in such fresh and wonderful ways. God is always new and fresh, yet He never changes. What a wonder He is!

In my life there were a couple of extreme circumstances
that the “church” had no answer that could satisfy my heart. Almost 40 years later after some powerful came
through the Vineyard, I had occasion to ask God,”What
have you been doing in my life for the past 3 years?” I
heard Him say.”I’ve been healing you of a broken heart,
not just because of tragic circumstances, but because
you thought you lost my love, which is the true broken heartedness, common in the world and in the church today.”

I personally loved the book and the movie. It was the first time I realized the role of “Father, Son & Holy Spirit”. And because my Heavenly Father had already showed up to me as my earthly father in a dream, I related to this on a personal level.
Thank you to the 3 men who worked so hard to put it on screen.
    God bless you!
