Spiritual Identity Theft

Spiritual Identity Theft
Doug Addison

I woke up the day after Christmas after several dreams where I saw the enemy trying to steal people’s destinies. As I prayed about it I heard the words “identity theft.” Oftentimes, things that are happening in the natural realm reflect what is happening in the spiritual realm. The rise of identity theft in the world is symbolic of what is happening spiritually to people all around the world. I saw two covert strategies that Satan is trying to use against people to keep them from seeing, finding, and fulfilling their life purpose and destiny in God.

Strategy 1: Getting us to Believe That we are our Behavior

Bad experiences or painful pasts can negatively affect our present. There are forces of darkness that want us to believe that we are the only ones who suffer with these issues and that it is unchangeable. This is simply not true. Too often our sin and emotional baggage gets linked to what we believe about ourselves. In other words, our personality and identity becomes associated with the things we struggle with. The strategy of the enemy is for us to believe that we actually “are” how we feel or behave, which is not true at all. Satan wants you to believe things like: you “are” depressed, unhappy, worthless, unable to change, stupid, a failure … the list could go on and on. It is important to realize that our feelings and behavior are situational and we can change them—the truth is…

Your Breakthrough is in Your Current Situation
Doug Addison

On 09/09/09 the presence of God came into my house and I was overwhelmed for over an hour with God’s euphoric love and joy. During the experience I received revelation about ministry and financial breakthrough that God wants to do in people’s lives right now. Many of us have prophetic promises from God about operating at a higher level of ministry but are currently in a job or situation that you have little passion for. There are also people who need a financial breakthrough that will allow you to freely do all the things that God is calling you to. God spoke to me that a key for this breakthrough may lie in your current situation.

My breakthrough
In 1988 God began speaking about being in full time ministry. A few years later I got serious about pursuing ministry training, but the problem was that I still needed to work my full time job to make a living. So I started doing self-study courses and volunteered what little free time I had at ministries that were doing what I felt called to. It seemed that I would never have the opportunity to serve God with the freedom I wanted and have the money to get the training I needed. Then God showed me that I needed to stop living my life thinking about how it will be in the future, begin enjoying the present, and be grateful each day for the job I had…

Don’t Stop in the Wilderness

Don’t Stop in the Wilderness
Doug Addison

The Wilderness
A big mistake we can make spiritually is stopping or quitting during difficult times. Periodically, we all go through a spiritual wilderness which is actually quite normal. God uses these difficult or unclear times to strengthen us and prepare us to be able to stand stronger in the future. We can learn valuable lessons in the wilderness.

Isaiah 43:19 NKJV
Behold, I will do a new thing, Now it shall spring forth; Shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.

Some people refer to the wilderness as the “dark night of the soul”. This phrase emerged from the writings of Saint John of the Cross, a Carmelite priest in the 16th century. Over the years I have learned to embrace these times and learn what I need, but I have found that it is best to get out of dry times as quickly as possible. Learn the lessons that God wants to teach you and get out of the dark night, for crying out loud! Some people think you are more spiritual if you live in the wilderness. The Israelites made this mistake when they were freed from captivity in Egypt. They were called to the Promised Land but settled for the wilderness instead.

Hosea 2:14 NIV
Therefore I am now going to allure her (Israel); I will lead her into the desert and speak tenderly to her.

Quite often God will allow us to go into a wilderness…

The Law of Attraction and the Bible

The Law of Attraction and the Bible
By Doug Addison

Maybe you have heard about the “The Law of Attraction”. It was made popular in 2007 by the book and DVD, The Secret by Rhonda Byrne. Byrne and many other New Age and positive thinking motivational gurus claim that we can actually create what we want simply by thinking it and asking for it. It is controversial in the science world because their hypothesis defies current understanding of scientific principles. They do however, have an amazing amount of testimonies that it does work.

If you are a Christian and you are practicing the Law of Attraction or you know someone who is, please consider what I have to say. If you are not a Christian and you practice this, then please do not take this as I am judging you. The way I look at it is that, if you are seeking the truth, eventually you will stumble upon God who can offer an incredible amount of fulfillment, peace and joy to your life. Hopefully I will help shed some light on the subject and bring it into perspective.

Though the actual steps to The Law of Attraction varies based on what book you read, most of the positive thinking gurus teach people to follow these steps:

• You must be certain as to what it is you want.

• Then ask the Universe to give it to you.

• On a regular basis begin to visualize yourself receiving it, holding it, experiencing what it is you want.

• Be open to…

Finding Your Destiny: Personal Development for Christians

Finding Your Destiny: Personal Development for Christians
By Doug Addison

So many people today are searching for the purpose for which they were created. A desire for purpose is rooted in our human nature. Too often many of us try to fill this with things like careers, status, cars, or the perfect relationship or family. None of these are bad, in and of themselves. However, they will not bring true fulfillment in life. Our purpose and destiny can ultimately only be filled through the good news of God’s love.

Jesus summed up the entire good news message in three verses. Matthew 4:19, He said, “Come, follow me…” Following Jesus in all that we do is the first place to start in finding your destiny.

In Matthew 22:37-39, Jesus replied: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. ” We must love God, love other people, and love ourselves.

Finally, in Matthew 28:19-20, Jesus said, “…go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you…” In other words, help other people and in doing so we end up making the world a better place.

You cannot go wrong if you build your life on this foundation. I like to think of finding your life purpose or destiny…

How to Write a Book

How to Write a Book
By Doug Addison

I had an experience in 2002 at 5:00 am in which I heard an audible voice (that I knew was that of an angel) tell me to “get up and write.” I got up and over the next two weeks in the early hours before work I wrote an outline for the book that became Prophecy, Dreams, and Visions: Revealing God’s Love through Divine Encounters. After writing the outline, I spent the next two years feeling guilty about avoiding writing the rest of the manuscript. I had a lot of good reasons: first, I am not a writer; I don’t have time; What if people don’t like it? What if I fail in front of the entire world?… etc., etc.

My problem was that I was trying to write it perfectly, so I would spend hours rewriting, then I would get discouraged. Then one day I experienced a major breakthrough and got my initial manuscript finished in three weeks. Here’s how I did it. For me, finding the time to write was the toughest part. I was busy traveling and speaking at conferences and when I was home I was too tired. I had to come to the point where I realized that avoiding writing was actually more painful than writing the book itself. Procrastination is a killer. I sat down and created a list of pros and cons for writing my book. The pros outweighed the cons by far. I would get my message out to…

Changing the Spiritual Atmosphere Around You

Changing the Spiritual Atmosphere Around You
by Doug Addison

There is a major shift happening on many levels in the religion, government, business, and the economy. This all has an effect on us personally. The good news is that God is beginning to reveal new strategies that will bring about radical change. It is easy for prophetically gifted people to get caught into always looking to the future and forgetting to enjoy the present. I always say that any day that we are still above ground is a great day! I recommend making the most of what we have right now. If you are not happy with where you are you can literally change the spiritual atmosphere around you rather quickly by practicing what I call the Three G’s.

- Grace: Cut people slack instead of cutting them off. Be humble and have compassion. Forgiveness is powerful. Contact people and clear the air of even the smallest offenses.
- Gratitude: Be thankful for everything that happens whether good or bad. I make it a point to put in more complements than complaints.
- Generosity: Give, give, give!! Not just money but time, energy and kindness. Leave money in places where people will find it and be surprised. Tip big! Say yes to help others.

If you do these things consistently, eventually the principle of sowing and reaping will catch up to you and your life will be full of people doing the same to you. Another way to change the spiritual atmosphere around you is to…

It’s Easy!

It’s Easy! by Doug Addison
Most of my years in ministry have been devoted to making things simple and easy to do. Looking back on my journey over the past twenty years, I can see how God used just a few simple verses from the Bible to guide me. I highly value the entire Bible but the verses that have impacted me the most were the ones that I heard God speak to me directly. In other words, I got a prophetic word from God and deeper insight about written words in the Bible. This happened to me for the first time in 1988. I head a small voice inside that I knew to be the Holy Spirit tell me to look up Isaiah 61. Honestly, I don’t think I had read the book of Isaiah at the point and had no idea what I would find. As I opened my bible and read the first two verses I fell on the floor crying.

Isa 61:1-2 NIV The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the LORD’s favor.

I cried for the next six weeks every time I thought of these verses. Since I had just gotten off drugs and came out of the occult, it was comforting to think that God…
