All you need is oxygen, tights, and love

Linda and I just celebrated our 12th wedding anniversary. I was scheduled to speak at a business seminar in Las Vegas so we went a few days early and saw the Cirque du Soleil show, Love. I was wondering if a group of French acrobats running around in tights dancing to Beatles tunes would be entertaining. I was pretty impressed. I did not expect Lady Madonna to be a stand-in from Stomp. If you ever wonder what an acid trip is like then this show is definitely for you. Nothing real exciting to report from Las Vegas. Just a bunch of drinking, over-weight people wheeling around oxygen tanks from slot to slot.

Funny thing happened to me on the way to California

I just finished a November to remember. Linda and I hit the road for a 2 week west coast tour. The highlight for me was being the headliner at Hysteria 2007 comedy night in Tulare, CA. I had no idea it would be a sold out event with nearly 300 people and 2 professional comedians, Ruben Quintana, and Dennis Gaxiola. I was the pasty white guy with white hair in the white Rod Stewart blazer. I got some laughs and God showed up too.

Cuatro Maneras de Hacer Predicación del Evangelio!
Written by Doug Addison

We just reordered another 1000 copies of my CD “4 Keys to Relevant Evangelism”. It arrived and we started selling it right away since we have been out of stock for a while. Someone called our office because the CD does not have my message on it – it looks like my CD but the duplicating company mistakenly put Spanish worship music on it. Too funny – I now have my first Spanish Worship CD which I am going to call Cuatro Maneras de Hacer Predicación del Evangelio!

Phone call with a hacker

I used to be a computer geek and I owned a computer network consulting company in San Francisco. Since I have a high tech background, getting our website hacked last week was not a fun experience. Actually, I kind of took it personal. Anyway, I was working late at the office cleaning up the cyber-mess when I got a phone call from the Hacker himself. I was honored that a Hacker would take time to connect with me personally. Oh my gosh, what a nice touch, calling me while he destroys my website.  I tried to tell him about God’s love and that our ministry helps people but he was not all that interested. It makes sense that if we are using the internet to share God’s love, not everyone is going to be happy. Oh yeah, after I hung up the phone I got a word of knowledge that his name is Raul, his father left when he was young and his grandmother has been praying for him. Jesus says, “Bless those who hack your website”.

Rod Stewart visits Amish country
Written by Doug Addison

Linda and I spent a few days in Millersburg, Ohio visiting my family. We had dinner in Berlin, a small town with a lot of Amish people. The Amish are a very interesting people. They do not use modern technology, like cars, electricity, etc. So they are all over town in their horse and buggies dressed in plain clothing. Well, needless to say, I stood out in that town. Amish people are also very respectable and have a code of conduct in which they never stare at anyone and mind their own business. Well, nearly every store I went in, I got stared at by the Amish! Since they had never seen Rod Stewart, it was difficult to explain my hair style. Obviously they don’t have hair dryers or styling cream pomade.

Perpetual bad hair day

My hair is a big deal to me. Call it vane (my wife does) but I don’t have any hobbies or pets but my hair takes about as much effort. I have had nothing but bad experiences with getting my hair cut in North Carolina. Since I do events on the West Coast every couple of months it seems to work out to get to my 2 favorite hair artist in San Francisco or Los Angles.  Well, fate had it that I missed my last hair cut opportunity in LA so I could meet with a Hollywood producer instead. I was now locked into a NC hair cut. So I ran an ad on www.craigslist.com for someone who could do a Rod Stewart hair do –with Goldwell Colortouch: -8N +5cc of 9G +20 Volume and highlights. I am not asking for much. Honest. I interviewed several potential stylists and chose one in Charlotte. Yes, I prayed about it and drove an hour and a half (beats flying 2500 miles) and was sure I would break through this negative association I developed. Unfortunately – I came out looking more like Barry Manilow again. Maybe I can get a gig in Las Vegas for a while.
