A Prophetic Word: Did you know that Ecstasy
can be found in the Bible? A look at the Trance.
The
music pulsates as waves of joy sweep over the crowd as it
expresses a deep desire for worship and freedom. The
ceremony goes on throughout the night as the priests
continue both to guide and to respond to the crowd’s desire
for deeper connection with those around them and to the
spirit that lies within.
This celebration is a Rave and the main
attraction is the ever popular “penicillin of the soul”,
Ecstasy. This illegal drug (aka MDMA) gives the users a
brain bath of serotonin which creates a sense of feeling
good, no fear, and the need to dance and hug everyone around
them.
The priests of the Rave are DJs who
play techno-music that allows people to engage in what is
referred to as “trance-dancing”. Ravers (those who go to
Raves) are finding a new sense of community as they hang
tight with their fellow partiers. On the surface this
underground explosion may appear good for its followers.
They seem happy and well adjusted, they stay off the
streets, and experience for the first time what it means to
be part of a community.
To many people who never saw themselves
as spiritual, Raves and Ecstasy are becoming the doorway to
a deeper spiritual experience. The sad part of the
experience for this group of dreamy-eyed youths is that the
trances are actually a counterfeit of the deeper spiritual
high that God has to offer.
Whenever something such as Raves and
Ecstasy becomes overwhelmingly popular, it’s a sign that God
is about to release to this group of people something that
will be the true fix and the ultimate high. The Greek word
for Ecstasy is ekstasis (ek’-stas-is) and is found
throughout the Bible. It is the same word as that used for
Trance. Interestingly, the drug Ecstasy is known on the
streets as the trance drug.
Often in the Bible God’s Holy Spirit
fell upon people and they went into a trance-like state .As
God continues to call this generation to Himself, you can
bet that He will use trances and other manifestations of the
Holy Spirit as a means of drawing people into the real thing
- real peace, real community, and real worship!
A century ago revivalist Maria Woodward-Etter
was known as the trance evangelist. People in her meetings
would fall into trances for hours at a time and some even
more than a day. They would come out of the trance with a
new desire to serve God with all that they had! Watch as the
Lord begins to release a new wave of “Trance Evangelism”.
