Pursuing your goals in
God. God is about to bust a move. Get ready!
A wise
man recently told me that in order for me to be truly
spiritual I must recognize what God has created me to do and
then do it. When we find that kind of focus in our lives, we
are much more successful, happier, and we can make the
greatest impact for the Kingdom of God. Similarly, we must
view others in this same way and help them become all that
God has created them to be.
When we are simply being ourselves we
are much more open to God’s anointing and creativity flowing
through us. Pastors often speak at other churches or at
conferences and find themselves experiencing a greater flow
of the Holy Spirit and power of God than they do when they
speak in their own churches. This happens because as they
speak outside their own churches, they are usually speaking
on subjects for which they have passion and they are getting
in touch with the very reason for which they were created.
Have you ever been around people who
know their spiritual gifts and seem to flow as they focus in
that particular area? It’s almost like being around a
“spiritual professional athlete”. They stand out and they
even contagiously influence others as long as they stay in
the area of their gifting.
When Jesus called Peter, James, and
John, they were fishermen. The first miracle He showed them
was with fish. He often used fishing to speak to them and
never really required them to become anything that they were
not already comfortable being. They did not go into the
synagogues and debate the gospel as Paul and Silas did. They
simply went out and fished for people. They put their nets
down wherever the Holy Spirit told them to. Jesus still
wants to use each of us in this same way - “who we already
are”!
Churches everywhere are full of people
who are filling positions that they are not necessarily
uniquely gifted to fill. This is mostly because for years
there have not been enough people in the church to do these
jobs so those who are willing servants pick up the slack.
The result is often spiritual burnout, loss of passion, and
an ineffective church. We must recognize our own gifts and
the gifts of others and help each other flow to our fullest
in those areas.
If I were to become a worship leader
and give 100% of my effort in that area, I would only
produce about 25% of what someone who is created to be a
worship leader could do. If, however, I were to focus on
evangelism and give 100% of my effort there, I would
probably produce 200 - 300% more than those who do not have
this particular calling because God has created me to be an
evangelist. Not only would I produce more fruit for the
Kingdom, but I would feel much more satisfied because I am
fulfilling my calling from God.
A great shift has begun to happen in
the Body of Christ. God is strategically positioning and
repositioning people to prepare for a greater flow of His
Spirit. Our tendency is to want to hold on to our positions
and comfort zones.
Eph 1:18 (I pray that) the eyes of
your understanding may be enlightened, so that you may know
what is the hope of His calling…
Find the focus and help others do the
same and we will become truly spiritual!
