What can happen when
you do what God has called you to do in the capacity and
favor that you currently have.
In 1987, I received the fullness
of the Holy Spirit in my life. I am so thankful that God led
me to a church that taught me how to grow spiritually and
helped train me as I was on the road to recovery and
wellness. I owe my life to the many unnamed people who, for
several years, prayed, counseled, corrected, cried, laughed,
and endured with me. I never forget the impact that these
people have had on my life. I’m so glad they never gave up
on me.
After being diagnosed last year with an
incurable disease called Huntington’s Disease (HD), I
seriously thought my life and ministry were over. The day
before I left my job as a pastor due to early symptoms of
HD, two of my dear friends took me to visit one of the most
prophetically gifted men that I have ever encountered -
Brother Albert in Campbell, CA.
Brother Albert prophesied over me on
several occasions. The first thing he said was that I would
get healed and would very soon relocate and travel around
the country with a powerful ministry. I shrugged it off as
“yeah, I’ve heard that before”. But, it was true. Within two
weeks I got healed and in six months I joined John Paul
Jackson’s ministry. I just started traveling doing prophetic
evangelism training and outreaches.
As
I walked into my first Brother Albert meeting, I heard the Lord speak
to me very clearly, “I want you to fan the smoke!” I thought, hey now,
that sounds real powerful doesn’t it? Brother Doug fanning the smoke of
revival! Where do I sign up for that? Then the Lord said, “I want you
to fan the smoke that the enemy has placed before my people’s eyes.”
Whoa now! That’s a little more of a challenge.
That was one of the last strong words
that I have heard from the Lord for myself. The bummer part
of a word like that is that I must have all the smoke
removed from my own eyes, too. So you can bet that I have
been in the middle of some intense healing. I have not yet
seen it play out to its fullest, but I am beginning to catch
glimpses of this prophecy.
Being behind the scenes of a national
prophetic ministry, I hear lots of things from various
prophetic ministers. One reoccurring theme in prophecy right
now is that God is about to move a bunch of “unknowns” to
the forefront.
I am sharing this is because I want to
encourage you in whatever it is that God has called you to
do. It’s not about being a superstar in the ministry or
being known nationally; it’s about impacting lives for Jesus
Christ. It’s not about having a paid ministry position or a
title; it’s about doing what God has called you to do in the
capacity and favor that you currently have.
People often feel that they have to
wait until they have it all together, go to seminary, get
enough money in the bank, or get out of debt (all legitimate
thing to do) before they pursue their calling in the Lord. I
have found over the past 15 years that when I pursue the
simple things of God - blessing widows and orphans, feeding
the poor, praying for the sick, or visiting those in prison
- then the doors open for me to do what I am called to do.
In 1988, I tried to go to Bible College
but the doors closed. Instead the Lord instructed me to be
faithful with every door that He opens and He would see to
it that I serve Him all the days of my life. Bible College
is great and necessary for some, but not always mandatory.
It’s time to pull out the journals
again and look at what God has called you to do. If you have
not felt a calling, pray and ask Him to speak to you. Then,
until He does speak, serve Him faithfully. As we get our
motives in line and our hearts set on His work, doors will
open!
One several occasions I went to a
meeting feeling down and that God had forgotten me. I
received a prophetic word from God got up and left that
meeting a changed man. Even as I write this I can feel the
wind of the Spirit blowing and I know that doors are about
to open for many of you!
Father loves you!
