I Need To Hear God Now!

people, emotions, stress and health care concept - unhappy african american young woman touching her head and suffering from headache

If you are anything like me, you probably like to hear God for your daily situations. But have you ever felt stuck, not knowing what God is saying? Most of us can hear God for others, but when it comes to hearing for ourselves, we have trouble. This does not need to be the case.

When you are not hearing God clearly, there are some things you can do to get things going.

I have been hearing God all my life, but did not always realize it was His voice. One of the biggest obstacles is discerning if what you hear is coming from yourself or from God. I can help you with that. I mention this all the time at my speaking events and in my training courses. Really, to hear God’s voice accurately, it requires that you journal and take specific steps to train yourself to discern.

But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.” Hebrews 5:14 NIV

I take time each day to write down a few things that are happening in my life. This gets me to open my journal and record simple things that are going on. This might include how I feel, my health, what is going on in my life, or dreams I had last night. If you do this, it will be easier for you to record when you hear God. Sometimes just being in your journal will jog your memory on things you may have forgotten.

Here Is a Simple Exercise to Help You Get Started

Go back to the last time you remember hearing God clearly. Now write or journal a few paragraphs about how it felt. How did it come to you? Did you do something different? Did you act right away or did you wait? You will need to do this on a regular basis.

Also, go back and look at times in the past when God has spoken to you and write a few bullet points about what happened afterwards. Journaling these things will train you to discern God’s voice.

This Is Easy!

Hearing God does not have to be all that complicated. Children hear God already, but may not have a vocabulary for it. I recommend talking about what you are hearing from God with those around you, including your children. If you make the supernatural a natural part of your life, it will begin to increase. Whatever you do on a regular basis and focus on will become more clear and begin to grow.

These are some simple steps to help you hear God’s voice. I pray that you will hear Him every day. Keep on writing and hearing.

Blessings,

Stumbled upon this today… I also wrote an article about this topic when we are in a situation when we can’t hear God’s voce anymore… Maybe He is silent – and there are some reasons and what to do…

    Thanks for this reminder

    Thanks Doug,
I was asking God if I was to work Summer school or take off and take college classes.
I was frustrated feeling like I wasn’t hearing what I was supposed to be doing. Very helpful insights.

Thank you for this timely post. I was talking to Lord about why I heard Him so much more when I was a younger Christian. Lots of images came to mind, but now I will journal with this specific purpose and I believe the Holy Spirit will make clear where changes can me made, I’m excited to start.
