How to Get Your Children into Their Destiny

Doug Addison

Did you know your destiny involves your children? For those who have children, we can get so focused on our own careers and spiritual lives that we may not realize that our children are our ultimate destiny.

With the right coaching and guidance, they can achieve much more than we could ever accomplish in our own lives. Grandparents, you grasp this easily.

I will pour out my Spirit on your offspring, and my blessing on your descendants. They will spring up like grass in a meadow, like poplar trees by flowing streams. Isaiah 44:3–4

A very powerful kingdom strategy is to help our children fulfill their own destiny.

Sadly, the statistics show that the majority of children who grow up going to church never return after they move from their parent’s home. This should be alarming to us and cause us to make a concerted effort to find out where we are going wrong.

Why are our children not interested in church? I believe that this young generation has such a high destiny and calling from God that they will experience opposition. Most kids who leave church don’t really have a problem with Jesus but somehow were not able to make the connection with their parents’ God.

This generation is looking for something very real. They must believe in what they do with all their hearts or they are not interested. Most Sunday schools and youth groups are not providing the connection and challenge they need.

Music and expression of who they are plays a big role in young people’s culture. They want to be understood and viewed as unique so they have special ring tones on their cell phones, particular songs on their Facebook pages, expressive photos on Instagram, significant tattoos and uncommon piercings.

The best way to help our children is to listen to them. Ask them specific questions about how they feel. Ask them to describe a type of church that they would like to attend. Help identify things that they are good at. These talents are often clues about their destiny.

Do their friends open up and share their problems with them a lot? Then they probably have a strong gift of counsel. Do they give freely to people in need? Then they may have a gift of compassion. Are they strongly opinionated and seem to buck the system? Most likely they are a leader in the making.

Years ago, my daughter was having difficulty deciding what she wanted to do with her life. I wanted her to pursue a higher vocation than she was in because of her intellect. She is smart, witty and has a lot to give. I started to point out the things that I noticed she is good at. I helped her to recognize her strengths and helped her see the God-given gifts within her. I also agreed to help her in any way I could and let her know that I would support and bless her in whatever field she decided to pursue. Within a short period of time, she began to get a clearer picture of what she likes and wants to do and it was more suited to her intellectual level.

Our children are our destiny! It helps to see that they are not only the future generation, but that our children can contribute now and we can help them.

How are you going to help them find new hope and purpose today? Pick just one small thing and watch it impact them like:

  • Learn to speak their language – what’s the new lingo?
  • Value their music – what’s their favorite tune?
  • Talk about their problems
  • Listen when they tell you stuff (even the most insignificant – if they are talking, it’s important to them) – just to name a few things we can try.

Enjoy watching their destiny unfold before you.

Blessings,

doug-sig

Thank you Doug for helping us as parents of grown kids, with kind words and encouragement. I waited in great anticipation of our boys growing up to see who they would be. I want to be more involved with their lives, and am trusting God that He will help us connect in greater ways coming!

      Thank you Doug,

Am one of the few people that sit under leaders that teach about destiny. But to find someone with specific message about children is a great blessing. You help shape a destiny of a child in God, you will influence a generation. May the Lord bless you and anoint you to touch the lives of more children and parents.

All I can do right now is pray. I’ve had to let my children go. After raising them and planting the seeds of gods wordin their hearts, and building good relationships with them growing up,I don’t hearfrom them or see them after 7 years.1 a year and half now. God gave me Isaiah 44:4 years ago and I’ve been standing on that word. They all loved god and grew up in church. Fear, control and intimidation separated us. I’ve tried to reach out many times, but now god has shown me that they have to come to me now and I have to let them go and entrust them completely to him. It doesn’t mean I’ve given up on them, but to stand in faith believing that gods working in their hearts and circumstances. He gave me dreams and visions about them. It has been devastating circumstances and very heartbreaking and almost unbearable at times. As a mother my heart aches for my children beyond what words can describe. I had adream they were 3 little spiders and I woke up (in my dream) and they had shot up over night and their legs were bright green and the scripture came to me in Is. 44..they will shoot up like the green grass. :)) Gods at work…I did my job well.:))

Thanks Doug! I’m a stay-at-home mom and now that my 3 kids are in junior high and primary school, I have questioned what I should be doing now. It’s encouraging to hear that my season is not wasted and building relationships with my kids has much more value than society puts on it. Your daily words are often the strength needed make it over the next hill. Thank you for being the heart of the Father.

That is so true. Many parents, I included are getting distracted by the many voices of the issues in our lives that we forget nurturing not finance is our primary responsibility to our children.
