Upgrade Your Ability To Hear God

A Young Adult Male Wearing White Shirt with His Hand Near His Ear. Gestures Can Not Hear or Talk Louder.

Do you want to hear God more clearly for your life? Yes, you can increase your ability to hear God, and I would love to tell you how. As a prophetic trainer for over a decade, I have taught thousands to up their game, get closer to God and hear Him more clearly. Let me explain more.

The key to increasing your ability to hear God is this—give it away. This key is based on 2 huge spiritual principles:
1. The more you give, the more you receive.
2. What you sow, you shall reap yourself.

Give More

When you freely give out prophetic and encouraging words to people, then it opens up the spiritual principle of receiving more from God. This also applies when you interpret dreams and tattoos. Giving generously will take you to a whole new level.

“Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” Luke 6:38 NIV

The context of Luke 6:38 is not giving money but giving love and forgiveness; though it will work for giving money as well, because it is a spiritual principle from God.

You Get What You Give

The second principle is that you will get what you give. So, if you give out a lot to others, you can expect that your good Father in Heaven will return what you have dealt out.

“A man reaps what he sows.” Galatians 6:7b NIV

If you find yourself complaining or grumbling then you might be reaping back negativity in your life. If it develops into a lifestyle then it can take away your authority in prayer and hinder your ability to hear the voice of God clearly.

My Story

Throughout my life, I have always given in the areas that I lack. I once gave out 500 prophetic words in 2 days. After I did that, I received an amazing amount of revelation just a few days later. You do not have to give out 500 prophetic words too, because it will look different for each person. But I make sure that I give out encouragement on a daily basis.

Try it out for Yourself

Ask God to highlight someone you meet in your daily life. Even if you give just one encouraging word or verse to a friend, you are on your way to making a positive flow of revelation back towards you.

Doing these simple steps will not only help you hear God more clearly, it will keep your heavenly bank account full of blessings. Go ahead and try it out.

Please let me know how it works for you in the comments below. I would love to hear your stories!

Doug, your words always bring encouragement and lift my spirit immensely. Thank you for pressing in to discern and share what your Father says. This post in particular has been helpful because while visiting family in February I had a bad fall and broke several ribs. In pain, I have not been able to return home or work yet. Though frustrated in my own plans I felt I could at least share words of encouragement and offer to pray with strangers as I hobble around town. These small steps have really blossomed! God sends me people every day – the grocery store, garden center, at an art gallery opening…our dog escaped and I even prayed with the person who found him! She cried as she hugged him and said “you have no idea what a horrible day I’ve had!” I replied, “No, but your Father in heaven does and that’s why he sent my dog to comfort you and me to pray for you.” It is exciting! I’ve had many dreams during this time, even one in which I was pregnant. So I know God is doing mighty things for others but honestly the more I give the more grateful I become because he is pouring so much love into my heart.

Thank you Doug. I had been doing this without knowing the principle you have described. I just want to be obedient to Him. Hearing God clearer also improves the more time I spend with Him, and being still in my circumstances and mind to hear His voice. Also when the Holy Spirit prompts me to pray, or do good, or speak the words He gives me to speak for someone, things change.
The other day I ordered Song of Songs: Divine Romance by The Passion Translation because the Holy Spirit placed an importance on this. When it came, I didn’t have a chance to read much more than the first 3 pages so wasn’t sure what the full content of the book was about. Two days later I met up with a friend who had been looking after her elderly mother and it was becoming so time consuming, she couldn’t spend time with the Lord and she missed Him. After we met I clearly heard from the Lord that this book was for her so I dropped it off at her house. I felt His peace which happens each time I do His will. I saw her 5 days later and she told me she’s read the book from cover to cover and the whole time she wept tears of love for her Father, so she is going to read it again. It absolutely blessed her and it reiterates to me that when the Holy Spirit speaks for me to do, I must do because that person will be blessed, changed, impacted by God and brought closer to Him. I often don’t know how someone benefits from when the Holy Spirit prompts me to say or do. I don’t need to know. Doing as He asks makes me happy but occasionally, like with my friend, I see how He affects others through me. It’s really interesting to see the Holy Spirit in action and see the wider picture. I love the Trinity.

I loved this post Doug! Thanks for your simple steps to live a godly lifestyle. Such a great reminder to give than to just receive.

Can someone please tell me what a “life parable” is? Although I’m not too new to the prophetic, I know many prophetic people have their own jargon expressions to describe something.

Your comments and posts add so much to my life on a daily basis, Doug.

Humility is the key. If you want to be great in God’s kingdom, learn to be a servant of all. Reach out in love and do unto others what you want to experience in your life. I’m finding out that it’s all about just seeking to be like Jesus – who we know came to give abundant Life through His wise words and healing touch. He is the Truth and to know Him is to set the captives free. He is the Way and we are His lights in the world.

    Hi Doug,
A couple of weeks ago I wrote a encouraging word to the body of Christ, I didn’t think much about it then two weeks later I read a post from a prophet. I responded and thank him for his posting because it confirmed a word that The Lord had spoke to me. I then posted a dream I had and I asked if anyone could prophetically interpret it. Two hours later I received a answer and it was exactly what I was sensing in my spirit. I always had a hard time understanding the meaning of the dreams I have had, but now since I posted the dream revelation has flowed with ease. Thank you for your gift that keeps on giving.

    In his mighty name,
