Will You Join Me in This Fast for Thanksgiving?

Happy Thanksgiving for those in the U.S.! It is an annual holiday tradition to give thanks to God and also to eat a lot of food and many go shopping afterwards.

We have so much to be thankful for—even in the midst of turmoil that is happening all over the world. We are grateful that God is still in charge and has an amazing plan in store for us.

The Lord spoke to me, “Would you consider fasting on Thanksgiving?”

“What? Are you sure Lord?”

Then He said, “Please consider fasting from grumbling and negative talk this Thanksgiving and see what happens.”

Do everything without grumbling or arguing, Philippians 2:14 NIV

Many people gather with family members during the holidays and it can sometimes be stressful because we don’t always agree with one another.

God challenged me several years ago to live a positive lifestyle, without grumbling and complaining. The result was astounding as the heavens opened up around me like never before. I am able to hear God more clearly, blessings flow and I get along with people. Grace and favor abound instead of disagreements and arguments!

There is a powerful biblical and spiritual principle found in Galatians 6:7: What you sow is what you reap.

This applies to our lives, both positive and negative. If we are sowing disagreeing, complaining and arguing, then we are going to reap a bad day. If we begin to sow compliments, love and agreement, we will then experience the very nature of God’s love for people.

We can change the spiritual atmosphere by doing this, even in the most negative places. It is not easy and it is often very humbling. I am not saying we cannot have an opinion, but sometimes we have to step back and bless those who curse us and pray for those who mistreat us (Luke 6:28).

I want to challenge you to fast on Thanksgiving and during the holidays … from negative thoughts and talk. In their place, bring to the table a feast of blessing, love and kindness.

Please try this and then come back here and leave a comment below and let me know what happens. You can also leave your feedback in the comments on my Facebook page, Instagram or Twitter.

Looking forward to hearing your Thanksgiving fasting story! May God bless you richly during the holidays ahead.

Blessings,

Doug Addison

I wish this could’ve been posted a few days before Thanksgiving. I’m not a negative person myself but would’ve loved to challenged the family. It’s a great lesson to learn. Some people don’t even realize they’re being negative. Love you all. Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Cy

God must’ve put the same thing on my heart, because I hadn’t seen this article until the day after Thanksgiving 2017, but the morning of Thanksgiving, for some reason I decided to speak blessings over all the people in our nation and bind the spirit of complaining and loosed the spirit of praise and worship and gratefulness towards God on this special day. I had never even thought of doing this before. My sister who has not been speaking to me since my mom’s death over a year ago, called me to wish me a Happy Thanksgiving and ask how I was doing? This is miraculous, because there was a life-long sibling rivalry and deep rooted jealousy and lots of unforgiveness between us. Our family has been completely torn apart due to the falling out between me and my sister, and now there is hope of reconciliation and restoration that looked completely impossible. When she called me, I wanted to fall on the floor and start praising God. I was so blown away by His goodness!!

I love this!! My family and I had a wonderful harmonious Thanksgiving together and for that I am so grateful! I thought about other families out there who are at each other’s throats on that day and felt sorry for them. Thank you, Jesus for the abundance of peace and blessings in our lives.

Even in fasting as you so correctly expound, we will be full with HIS sweetness, our strength is restored and abundance of Favor is provided.

    Psalms 119:103

How sweet are thy words unto my taste!
yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!

    Ecclesiastes 10:12
The words of a wise man’s mouth are gracious full with favor; but the lips of a fool will swallow up himself.

    Proverbs 15:23

A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth:
and a word spoken in due season, how good is it!

    Shalom
