How to Be Positive in a Negative Atmosphere

God is shifting things beneath the surface even if you can’t see it right now!

The enemy may be coming in like a flood, but God has given you the power to walk on the water.

There is a story in the Bible that talks about Jesus’ disciples being caught up in a storm while they were in a boat. Jesus began walking on the water to get to them, but the disciples were afraid because they thought He was a ghost!

[Tweet “The enemy may be coming in like a flood, but God has given you the power to walk on the water.”]

But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”

“Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.”

“Come,” he said.

Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”

Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?” Matthew 14:27-31 NIV

Peter began to sink because he got caught up in the negativity and fear—the wind and the waves—that were happening around him. Whenever bad things are happening around us, we must keep our eyes focused on Jesus, so we won’t sink into the negativity!

Accuser is not one of God’s names

There are so many bad situations happening in the world, it can be easy to begin blaming other people. This is playing right into Satan’s hand because “accuser” is one of Satan’s names, not one of God’s (Revelation 12:10).

We don’t want to come into agreement with the accusations Satan has for ourselves or other people. We want to come into agreement with what God says about people!

It’s important right now to step away from the negativity that judgments bring. God is not a God who curses people. He is a God of love.

Check for negativity in your life

Here are a few questions you can ask yourself in order to check for negativity in your life:

  • How are you treating people behind the wheel of your car?
  • How are you behaving when no one is around to see what you’re doing?
  • How are you acting towards people who don’t agree with you?
  • How are you treating people in your online interactions?

Step out of negativity and into God’s perfect love

God may be tweaking some things in us right now, but all of it is to set us up to succeed. Jesus told his disciples during the storm: “Take courage! It is I. Do not be afraid!” He is saying the same thing to you right now as you step out into the unknown.

God wants us to step out of negativity—but He doesn’t judge us if we’ve found ourselves caught up in it! Remember when Peter began to sink, Jesus reached out and saved him. There is always grace available for us to align ourselves with God and start walking in perfect love.

    Hi Doug!
I have your dream book “Understand Your DREAMS NOW Spiritual Dream Interpretation.” I love this book! So helpful. I’ve purchased and sent multiple copies to my family members and friends via Amazon. So thank you for this VERY helpful tool. My question is: what does a horse symbolize? I had a dream last night with a large, powerful, pure white almost albino looking horse in my dream. Even his eyelashes were white. I can’t find in the book what a horse symbolizes. Can you please tell me? Thank you.

Hey Jacqui! That is awesome that you have enjoyed Doug’s book so much. Doug often says each of the symbols may change from dream to dream and based on a person’s dream language that God may have with you. Horses can mean power, strength and warfare. Again, ask the Lord what horse means and keep track of what you hear. God bless you!

I believe for a miracle with Jason and that we are to be together and things look grim right now and I am in a negative mode—but thanks to this insight and reminder of our Father and his love for us — I am truly trying to stay positive as Jason maybe renewing his contract to stay here instead of going back to where he is from.

    Doug & Friends:

Thank you. I have recently been fighting the accusers rejecting thoughts toward myself. If He is not getting us to be hard on others, he turns his stuff on us. A while ago I noticed in John’s gospel, he does not mention Peter in his account of walking on the water. John was so focused on Jesus and revealing Christ that he is focused on the Lord coming through the storm to meet them in the boat. I have read another man’s message encouraging us all to stay in the boat. Stay in relationship with true brothers and sisters.

To me, Jesus times of water walking are the most encouraging miracles he performed. Out of all Christ’s fabulous miracles walking on the water during tumultuous storms is so much more than inspirational, it mightily proved His deity. And THAT is the crux of every reason to shift away from negative feelings and actions.
Thank You Doug, for your words today.

Praise God for this. No matter how long we walk in Christ we can still be plaqued with negativity. If we ourselves aren’t someone else is and it seems easy to catch it. Thank you for shining the light on this.
