A Strategy Jesus Highlighted for the Coming Year

I just released Prophetic Word: Ancient Paths and Time of Transition that includes an encounter I had with the Lord on Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement). If you missed that, be sure to check it out here.

In the prophetic word, I talk about the Lord opening up ancient paths that will bring rest to our souls.

This is what the Lord says: “Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls. But you said, ‘We will not walk in it.’” Jeremiah 6:16 NIV

To help understand this, the ancient path does not necessarily mean it is about old or ancient things. These are the mysteries and revelations that have been hidden for ages and are now being revealed (Colossians 1:26). Watch for new revelation to open for you in the coming months.

[Tweet “The mysteries and revelations that have been hidden for ages and are now being revealed”]

Narrow gate explained

Also, this year the Lord is calling us to enter the narrow gate that requires us to let go of things from the past in order to go into the future uninhibited.

[Tweet “This year the Lord is calling us to enter the narrow gate that requires us to let go of things from the past in order to go into the future uninhibited.”]

“Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.” Matthew 7:13–14 NIV

Since I had this dream and encounter on Yom Kippur, it is a major prophetic word for the coming year. The Lord is releasing new things to us this year and a strategy to help us obtain it.

[Tweet “The Lord is releasing new things to us this year and a strategy to help us obtain it.”]

Matthew 7 revelation

During this Matthew 7:13–14 encounter, the Lord revealed more to me about a strategy given earlier in that chapter. Notice the process—before Jesus talks about the narrow gate, He gives us 4 keys to get there.

  1. Matthew 7:1 “Do not judge, or you too will be judged.” We will need to step away from judging others.
  2. Matthew 7:7 “Ask … seek … knock …” We will need to be proactive this year and not just wait on the Lord to open the door.
  3. Matthew 7:11 “How much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!” We need to get healed in our understanding that God the Father is good and not angry and watch as new gifts come to us.
  4. Matthew 7:12 “Do to others what you would have them do to you.” We need to get rid of any unloving behavior towards others.

Then we can enter the narrow gate in Matthew 7:13–14 (NIV),

“Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.”

It would be good to read and study Matthew 7 to understand how to enter into the coming new season and year. As mentioned earlier with Jeremiah 6:1:6, we will need to let go of old ways of thinking and “ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls.”

    Hey K,
I guess I can feel the pressure you are going through right now, but I think it’s the fire that sometime God takes us through in order to prepare us for the next season.
For around one year, I have also been going through a terrible season (wilderness)…auctioned and thrown out of my previous house, among many other terrible experiences, BUT in the middle of that I received a prophetic word that has been acting as an anchor.. knowing completely that God is leading me no matter what the situation dictates.
Listen carefully to what God is saying to you (because he is only interested in you not everybody else around you) and once you are sure that what you heard, just step out. He says that he will never leave nor forsake you. No matter what.
The road might be rough but am sure yours is beauty for ashes…I pray for your peace and good courage as you proactively listen to the voice of our Lord
    God bless

    Hello again,
How do I pray against those who perpetrate evil; do i first ask GOD to forgive them; then do I myself forgive them?
then what? when I see abuse and cruelty, how do I address those?
Do i ask for its exposure? What do I ask?
How do I pray next? For the wounded /or repair of the damage of evil acts?
    I need a good structure..
Can you advise me? I have much and many, for whom to pray..
    Thanks!

Hi. As I begin to type this comment, I begin to weep. I stand in joy how God remove me out of bondage. For the past 6 years in my life, I fell in a dark deep depression. I wanted to throw in the towel. It affected me financially with my job. I couldn’t make it to work on time due to severe depression. I also was recently diagnosed with sleep apnea and now receiving treatment. So many people are unaware they have this condition. This is a serious health issue. It can affect your oxygen levels and your overall physical and mental health. I felt like a powerful demonic force was holding me hostage in my bed. Many days I wept in agony and frustrated. I was too ashamed to tell my supervisor, family and friends what I was going through because of being afraid they will judge me and call me crazy. There has been so much stigma placed on mental illnesses. Today, God has lifted up my depression. I have some good days and bad days, but I’m not in that deep dark place like I was before. I learn how to open my mouth and PRAY!!! Please continue to pray for my total and complete healing. I am also going through a legal case at work. I pray it will work in my favor, and I receive double for my trouble. Thank you for all that you do Doug. I also read your post as encouragement. Whoever is reading this, hold on and don’t throw in the towel. The enemy wants to steal your destiny in God, but God has a different plan for your life. I am encourage by Joseph in the Bible. He was thrown in jail for being falsely accused, but his breakthrough came in places we are not comfortable to be in. God wants to put us in uncomfortable places, but what is your response? Are you going to murmur and complain or are you going to push through the process and allow God to be strong in your life, when you are weak. Be encourage and press through the mark.

    Hi Doug
Thank you for this word. My Bible reading the other day was Jeremiah 6 so it is fresh in my mind! Im encouraged and praise God for His guidance. Especially at this time. I will read Matthew 7:13-14 and Col.1:26 to connect what the Father is saying and for His wisdom. For me, it is a New time or ‘season’ in my life. Bless the Lord.
Thank you and God richly bless you
    Kind regards

I had a similar vision over 8 years ago. I was standing at a crossroad and I was extremely stressed out because I didn’t know which way to go. Then, I heard a voice say, “Jeremiah 6:16.” At the time, I had never noticed that verse and had no idea what it said. It seems I must have missed the correct path in spite of all my efforts to get on it based on the ridiculously insane, crazy junk that has happened over the last 8 years. Unlike Doug’s encounter, this MOST certainly was NOT easy. I have never been so close to “throwing in the towel” and I have quit believing in some things because I don’t know if they even apply anymore. It seems that there are a few of us in this predicament. None of this even makes sense. I have never done so much with such seemingly LITTLE positive results in my entire life! Wow! I admit I have lost my perspective and I’m not sure how to get it back. I have believed, prayed, asked, agreed, begged, cried, wept, agonized, screamed, praised, laughed, sowed, worked, decreed, declared, prophecied, meditated, given, cleansed, loved, forgiven, so much for so long I’m not sure why I’m even doing it anymore. God help us!

First of all, thank you so much for praying for me. It means a lot that you care and pray. Thank you! 😊🙏 Secondly, I apologize for the negativity. I don’t post negative content because I don’t want to discourage anyone; there’s too much negativity in the world already. This post was an exception for me. Thirdly, at the beginning of this year, I almost posted a suggestion that those of us who read Doug’s blogs set up time to pray for each other. I actually signed up for a FreeConferenceCall number for this purpose. I don’t have anyone in my area to pray and agree with the way I want. I have some people that I pray with, but they aren’t totally sure if you can hear from God and they definitely don’t believe in the prophetic. I will pray for you as well.

Tim, know that you still do hear God’s voice as you mentioned regarding Jer. 6:16. Some things came to mind as I read your story. Please release yourself and others from any thoughts or bitterness from past experiences with people or your expectations of them; forgive and love as Doug has admonished. It will be healing to you. A couple verses came to mind. “Seek peace and pursue it” and
‘as much as lieth within you be at peace with ALL MEN”. Then “ask, seek and knock” until you get some answers. DON’T QUIT! until you get the answers and in the meantime, just start by speaking out forgiveness. You will ‘feel it’ in time, you have much to give.

At first I thought I was in this alone but God said that he was also working on others. So am not surprised you (and Schelles and K) have gone through those terrifying experiences.
My whole life has been a fight! Nothing is ever easy even when everyone seems to enjoy the ride. I am sure I have worked harder/longer even smarter than everyone around me but nothing to show for it. I have been ridiculed, scorned, humiliated… Sometimes it’s too difficult but then he’s taught my heart to say it is well. Although there are no timelines here, just know God is faithful and like he did with Abraham, Joseph, Israel (from Egypt), David (to be King), and many others, he will surely fulfill his promises to us all.
      God bless and keep you

Oh my gosh Tim!! I can do relate to your post! Me too!!! Brother, you are not alone… yet, we serve a mighty MIGHTY GOD! I’m still standing, because I’ve done it before without Him, and that was a disaster! As hard as this season has been, I know that I know, that I KNOW…. He will use it ALL for His glory, and my submission, laying it ALL at His feet, standing when I could barely get up, crawling when I could barely breathe, and trusting even when I didnt understand… it will all be for His glory, and the ashes will be beautifully made into the promises He has given! Sometimes what we think it should look like, arent the way they turn out, yet God promises to never leave us! Hang in there! Know that someone else is hanging on as well. He will come through. It’s a refining fire, and one day you will see such a magnificent blessing, and you will know that none of it was because of you, it was ALL HIM. This is me as well. I fit in this same category. It will be evident that it is so all about Him, that none of it was me. I just stood. I held on. I hoped even when there wasnt much in me to hope for. I drew in my breath, knowing it was Holy Spirit filling my lungs. My faith was weak, yet, I knew a mustard seed is so tiny… and inside of it, there was a drop of faith still left. Be encouraged. Dont give up. You’re almost to your breakthrough. Me too… I will remember you in prayer.

Wow it is amazing as Thise are my sentiments exactly- With one exception they describe my faith in the situation I’m currently in as I am still in the refiners fire but you have described what I’ve visualized every day and what I hang onto and that is that everything I’m going through will eventually turn out to be something that God turns around for my good. I am another one who has been doing all she can do to stand during trials during the tournament during all of it. What we Can do is to stand in agreement they got always causes us to triumph. amen

Hey Tim. Thank you for being so open and sharing what you have been going through. I am so sorry that it has been a hard 8 years for you. I love that you are still standing and that you do still have faith. The Lord see’s all you have gone through and how you have waged through a lot. In Doug’s September Spirit Connection, he talked about how the past 7 years have been very difficult for many people and that now we are in a time of repayment. Even though this was last months word, it will still be good for you to listen to if you haven’t because it might bring some encouragement to you, https://dougaddison.com/2018/09/prophetic-word-your-season-of-promotion-and-repayment-is-here/.

I am praying for you now Tim to be re-energized by the Lord’s joy and peace. God loves you so much, stay close to Him and He will never let you down <3.

Tim, I too am feeling this way, battling every day to hold on to hope. It’s been at least 8 years of intense warfare, but there were victories and obvious signs of God’s Presence. This past year has felt like God walked away and left me to figure it out on my own. I know this is not true, but that’s how it feels. I am constantly drawn back to Eph 6:13, that having done all to stand, stand firm! Thankful for all the encouragement written here from many others! Bless you all, together we will see the Glory of God! He is faithful

For over a year know I have been hearing God call my to be ‘homeless’ to ‘trust and obey’ step out in faith and He will provide. I am TERRIFIED. I do not want to leave my family and friends and the comforts of home and a shelter over my head but I am in agony and restlessness not stepping out. This word lines up perfectly because I have literally told the Lord ‘no, I will not do that. Please no.’ But I have been tormented with depression and suicidal thoughts for months. The only thing I can figure is I am in sin due to disobedience from the Lord and the enemy is allowed to torment me. I am so scared. I don’t want to do this. But Jesus is the only way… could He really be asking this if me as a Luke 9 mandate? Everything your word says lines up.. the narrow way.. not many find it… but when I look all around everyone else is having clear direction and fruit when they step into something new for a positive. For me it seems I’m stepping into the depths of spirituality to new levels. From a heavenly perspective that’s great. But my heart is not there yet. And I don’t think my mind can take another year of Satan’s torment if I don’t follow what I’m hearing. I am restless and exhausted and need breakthrough and help. You said God is waiting on me. If anyone has any words of encouragement please…

      Dear K,

Thank you for writing into Doug’s blog and sharing your heart with us. Yes, you have a fear tormentor that you need to get rid of. No, Jesus would never ask you do something that is not part of your heart’s desires. Jesus knows your heart’s desires and created your unique calling and destiny so you can fulfill your life purpose and find joy, peace and love every day as you walk through it.

Doug said in his blog “It would be good to read and study Matthew 7 to understand how to enter into the coming new season and year. As mentioned earlier with Jeremiah 6:1:6, we will need to let go of old ways of thinking and “ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls.”

I think the first thing to do is get rid of the old ways of thinking and the tormentors of fear, depression and suicide. Let go of all of the beliefs and vows and words that you believe the Lord told you that are part of the years of torment. Go back to where you knew how much Jesus loved you and where you can rest in his love and perfect peace for you again. Spend time soaking in the Lord’s presence without any worry or guilt that you might miss your calling.

You will not miss your calling. Your first calling is to soak in the Lord’s love for you and refill your heart with his promises of health and life for you. Email us at help@dougaddison.com and we can help you with the next steps. Jesus loves you. We love you. You were created to live life in the fullness of love of your creator. We believe in you!
