Where is God in Our Pain and Struggle?

When hard times happen, we may wonder where God is through it all. We can fall into focusing on the pain of our struggle and believing we are alone. Regardless of how we may feel, God never leaves our side. He still speaks to us even when we’re at the lowest point of our lives.

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:6 NIV

God knows how to encourage us when we feel down and out. But we can be so focused on our difficulty that we can’t hear Him clearly.

Here are some steps you can take to unclog the spiritual atmosphere around you, so you can start hearing God for your situation and get moving in the right direction!

Remember that you are highly favored

When we go through hard times, we can get so caught up in the day-to-day survival mode that we forget or ignore our physical, emotional and mental needs. God doesn’t want you to merely survive—He wants you to thrive even through the rough patches in your life.

When Joseph was falsely accused, he even found favor in the jail cell! Because he was already known for his good character, Joseph was put in charge of all the other prisoners (Genesis 39:1–23).

God can do the same for you! No matter what terrible events may have occurred, difficult situations and circumstances can’t take away the favor of God on your life. You can even use your difficult times to your advantage.

Remember that God is thinking big

Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us. Ephesians 3:20 NIV

God isn’t only thinking about what you need today to get through your difficult time. He has plans for your future to give you more than you can even imagine!

You may see your difficulty, but God sees your future!

Take time to rest and listen

God is not afraid of your pain, your hardship, your illness or your heartache. He knows exactly where you are and what you’re feeling. You can open up to Him and express what’s going on inside of you.

Remember, you are not alone. God is there with you even in the struggle!

Take heart! God did not bring you this far to quit on you now. Watch God blow your mind with the good things He has planned for you! It will be better than before.

    I have and am struggling for so long, it seems to me that I always will be. I am in a dark pit of financial despair it seems to go on and on! I KNOW my FATHER IS THERE, but struggling to hold on that HE will help me. I have prayed for HIS divine help daily, but it seems to be to no avale. WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?

    This is so good. “Satan attacks you in the area of your strength and future calling” from the link. I’ve had chronic insomnia since childhood. I’m in my late 40’s, who is otherwise creative, healthy and enjoy an active life. Why do you think the enemy is attacking me there? Thank you Doug and team for your faithful ministry.

      Hey Rosa!

      The attack of sleep is showing that you have a calling to enter into the Lords rest, be a dreamer and to help others. This might be a generational curse that needs broken. I would recommend continuing to press in to get healed until you see results.
