How to Turn Your Dreams Into Reality

Do you have a goal you’ve been meaning to pursue, but haven’t accomplished yet?

Many of us have heard God concerning our destiny and have many wonderful dreams or great ideas, but—when it comes to taking action—we have trouble making progress with concrete steps towards these goals.

So how can we turn these dreams into reality? Here are four practical steps you can take right now!

1. Decide what to focus on first.

We are in a season right now when God is calling many people to write books, start ministries or businesses, or do things that you might have put off. The hardest part of this is simply getting started.

It’s important to understand that saying “yes” to one doesn’t mean saying “no” to all the others. Sometimes we have to say “not right now” to some ideas so we can focus our efforts towards completing one task at a time.

2. Take small steps towards your dream every day.

When I was writing my new book, Hearing God Every Day, it was hard to find the time and energy to take on this large project the Lord had asked me to do. It’s easy to put off things or procrastinate when this happens because the task at hand feels so big.

This is why I chose the strategy to do one small step towards my goal every day. Remember, every book was written one word at a time—just like every goal was accomplished one task at a time!

“Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin.”
Zechariah 4:10 NLT

There’s no need to feel like you have to accomplish your goal all at once. It takes time to make dreams come alive. Also important is knowing how to stop the dream thief of procrastination.

3. Do what works for you.

I also needed to write my book in the way that works for me. I put up large poster boards on my wall so I could visually see how my book would come together.

God designed you to function in a specific way. You don’t have to fight against it—work with it!

But by the grace of God I am what I am. 1 Corinthians 15:10 NIV

The world needs to hear the message God has given you in the unique way God spoke it to you.

4. Get a solid support system.

I brought together a small group of friends who helped pull the message out of me and helped organize it for my latest book, Hearing God Every Day.

Don’t feel as if you have to accomplish your dreams all on your own. God will often send friends, leaders and partners to help you!

This is a time for your dreams to become a reality! I can’t wait to see what happens.

Blessings!

Thanks for sharing how you tracked your ideas and strategies for writing. I published my first book November 2018. It was 8 years of writing down my dreams, encounters, revelation, testimonies and more… It is based on Isaiah 9:7…. Of His Increase.
    Spot on Doug!

Although you are a very positive guy, I get SO MUCH from knowing that you have struggles too. Setting up a “cleaner” image puts you somewhere that I cannot reach. Knowing you are just as “human” as me, however, is a very real bridge for my own path forward and a reminder that I am not alone after such a very long time in the Valley of Hope Deferred. Keep it real, bro. No need to ever “front”. We love you and your ministry as God is, exactly as you say, pulling so many of us out now and into a destiny heretofore unknown. Wow. BLESSINGS on you and on your helpers at inLight! – John – Columbus, Ohio

Taking s small step towards my goal each day sometimes enlists me to ‘think’ of the goal and ask the Lord of my Life to show me one more step! But before the day was up, I saw possibilities I hadn’t seen before. Some were ‘costly’ so I asked my Lord to provide. I don’t have all the answers, but I know I am being led!!!

Your post today was such a comfort to me. The Lord has laid several books on my heart to write. I almost finished my first one and reread it and knew it wasn’t “right” and had not gone back to the drawing board yet. Your post today, gave me the “push” to give it another try. I knew it was to be broken down in outline form, since that is my “go to” for most things. Seeing that you also have moments of difficulty, ministered to me. This afternoon, I completed my first outline. Thank you for sharing.
