3 Ways to Get Fear Out of Your Life

Fear is a four-letter word that starts with “F!”

This simple little word, fear, is the root of so much pain in the world. You’ve most likely been affected by it through things like stress, procrastination or worry.

It is interesting to me that the Bible says things like “fear not” or “do not be afraid” over 365 times! That’s like God telling you not to be afraid every day of the year! So, getting rid of fear must be important!

Many of us even feel the sting of fear because we’re trying to be perfect all the time. But there are a few places in the Bible where we’re encouraged to be perfect—and it’s not what you expect!

Perfect peace

The first thing we are encouraged to be perfect in is peace. How can you do this? We’re given the instructions for this in Isaiah!

You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.
Isaiah 26:3 NKJV

If we want to be in perfect peace, we have to keep our minds focused on the Lord and trust Him with our lives.

How can you be afraid when you’ve completely focused your heart, mind and soul on God? When you shift your gaze off of yourself and your fears and instead focus on God and His greatness, you enter into perfect peace!

Perfect love

Love is the perfect remedy to fear, because you can’t love and be afraid at the same time.

There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. 1 John 4:18 NIV

How does fear punish? I think it has to do with how terrible we feel when we’re afraid. Fear can paralyze us from moving forward in our dreams, calling and life-purpose.

There’s a lot going on in the world right now, and it would be easy to feel fearful. But when you understand God’s perfect love, fear is driven away so you can hope and plan for the future again.

I encourage you to love courageously in the face of all the violence, attacks, disagreements, etc. God’s love in you will create a ripple effect that will move throughout the world and heal what is broken.

Perfect surrender

A young rich man came to Jesus and asked Him what the greatest commandment was. Jesus answered that he should keep all of the commandments. The young man replied that he had kept the commandments all his life but wondered what he was missing.

Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth. Matthew 19:21-22 NIV

Many people think that since Jesus told a young rich man to sell all his possessions, then all of us should do that too. But this isn’t what Jesus was saying. Instead, He was asking the man to surrender to God completely and perfectly, and to trust in Him as opposed to trusting in his wealth.

When you give your life over completely to God in the ways that He specifically asks of you, fear can no longer rule over your life.

So, is there something you know God is asking of you, but you haven’t completely surrendered to it yet? The cure for your fear may be on the other side of your obedience to God and your total, perfect surrender to Him!

I hope this week you will completely surrender to the Lord’s life-purpose for you and enter into His perfect love and peace!

Blessings,

    Excellent.

Yesterday, I was pondering upon the importance of meekness.

We can only be meek through loving and entering the fullness of God’s perfect love.

    Many thanks.

    Hiya Inlight Team,
    Happy New Year:)
Over the last 15 yrs I’ve heard 3 bells out loud in my sleep as I woke up, and I learnt by the 3rd one that ABBA was showing me a shift of season in my life.
But a few days ago I heard my dads voice in my room as I woke up saying my Name ( she says it with a northern Yorkshire accent- started to pray for my dad and phoned them but they were fine. Then two nights ago I heard my Brother say my name Audibly and loudly just as I woke up.
Do you have any idea what it means please?
Thanks so much for all the insight you share
    Blessings Suzanne
