Is God Really in Control?

“Is God Really in Control?”

You may be asking yourself this question as the world deals with different storms. Some of these storms have come in the form of the global pandemic and political disagreements.

Or you could be dealing with your own personal storms right now. You may be starting to wonder if they’ll ever go away.

If you find yourself questioning where God is in all that’s happening, I have an encouraging message for you today.

God is still on the throne.

Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. Hebrews 4:16 NIV

God is still reigning on His throne. As you look around and see all the scary stuff happening around you, it’s important to remember that God is not shaken by any of this.

Even though God doesn’t send negative stuff our way, He does give us the strength to deal with what comes when we ask. You can approach His throne with confidence to get the mercy and grace you need!

Don’t be afraid of the shaking.

The words “once more” indicate the removing of what can be shaken—that is, created things—so that what cannot be shaken may remain. Hebrews 12:27 NIV

God is in control, so you don’t have to be afraid of what’s happening around you.

When everything seems to be shaking, remember that the shaking gets rid of all the stuff that wasn’t firmly rooted. When the shaking is done, you can trust that what’s left over is strong.

This can be a big benefit to you! If you feel confused right now about anything in your life, embrace the shaking. The shaking can reveal what is worthy of a place in your life—because what cannot be shaken remains!

Shake the dust off.

If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words, leave that home or town and shake the dust off your feet. Matthew 10:14 NIV

Many of you have felt cast aside or forgotten. You may even feel like the world doesn’t have a place for you and constantly rejects you. This disrupts your peace!

God is saying to you, “Shake it off.” It’s time to cast your worries and cares to Him.

Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7 NIV

God really is in control. So, you can shake off your worries and cares with praise!

    Hi Doug,
    I think the term, “God is in control”, sends entirely the wrong message. It implies, and a lot of people believe, that God controls everything that happens to you and everyone else. This concept makes you helpless in the face of difficulty. If God is controlling what is happening, then you can’t do anything about it and may as well lie down and take whatever is coming. Your friend gets cancer? Well, God is in control, so it must be God’s will, therefore you should just submit and hope for the best.
    I know this isn’t what you believe, but saying God is in control implies that we have no recourse. A more accurate phrase is, God is in charge. When someone is in charge, you can go to him/her for help. When that person is “in control” or controlling everything, you have no options and no help. This may seem like semantics, but the notion that God is in control has ruined a lot of lives. It’s bad theology, and untrue, especially considering “the power that works in us”.

    I believe God is sovereign but does not control everything. There is a difference. Sorry.

    After reading Doug’s article I sensed that the H.S. was saying…do back to the basics in your faith and get established in your beliefs. It is time to know God and all that HE wants us to have in our relationship with Him. Everyday spend time with Him. It will help you establish your beliefs in HIS KINGDOM.

      I went through this before. God does not control every little detail of this world. He is sovereign. Was god in control when I was molested? No. His heart broke for me and the Perpetrator. He wants good things for us and his sovereign will will ultimately be done on this earth. Yet he works in and through us. He is a good good father. I am not anxious about the political things going on because I see him at work. Cleaning up wrongs in our country. I have hope in him for my future. I am not trying to argue about this. It is what I believe. Hugs to you all.

He is not saying God plans for us to be abused, but in the end, all things work together for those who love Jesus and make Him Lord. We are so sorry you were abused.
