Turn Your Story of Pain into A Powerful Purpose

Our personal stories are powerful! You can turn your story into a powerful purpose for your life. I’m going to share the story of how I got my calling, plus Mary Magdalene’s story of what she saw at Jesus’ tomb to help you get a healing breakthrough.

There are some things I had to realize before I could really get healed enough to walk into my calling. Things that aren’t taught in most churches, but I learned them by a revelation of Mary Magdalene’s story in John 20.

Staring into the pain of the past

Now Mary stood outside the tomb crying. As she wept, she bent over to look into the tomb … John 20:11 NIV

The tomb represents the pain of the past. The disciples had been at the tomb for a while, and then they went back home. But Mary stayed weeping over her loss. She looked into the tomb, focusing on her loss and pain.

Of course, there is an appropriate time of grief and healing. I’ve walked through a lot of losses and suffering in my life. And still today, I sometimes find myself getting back in front of those tombs. The key here is that you can’t live your life staring into the tomb of your pain and loss.

Turn around to see your future

[Mary] turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not realize that it was Jesus.
John 20:14 NIV

All Mary knew at that moment was that Jesus was gone. But when she turned around, He was standing 180 degrees behind her! This symbolizes that the Lord is going to call you away from the past into something new.

Also, notice that He was a gardener. God wants to use your past experiences to cultivate your future and to help you grow. I experienced this for myself as I stayed in counseling for a time to get healed from the many painful things of my past. And now I use my personal stories to help others get their healing and breakthrough.

Embrace the resurrection of your life

The Cross of Christ is a first step to get through your pain and the spirit of sickness, suicide, death and discouragement. I had to stay there for a while so I could get healed. But then I had to turn around and embrace the fullness of the Resurrection for my life!

I tell you, there is Resurrection power available for you every day. Jesus said in John 11:25, “I am the resurrection and the life.”

Then Paul said in Romans 8:11:

But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells [lives] in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells [lives] in you. Romans 8:11 NKJV

Here’s something to think about: Why would Satan work so hard against you unless you are a threat? You have a purpose and a calling on your life! So don’t stay in the graveyard of the pain of your past. Instead, do the 180 turn to see a better, brighter future—for you!
