How to Make Prayer Fun and Powerful

Through my many years as an intercessor, I have learned to combine the prophetic gifts of hearing the Lord, wisdom and revelation with intercession—this is called prophetic intercession.

Prayer is something we all know is good for us, but many people don’t make it a priority or have not been trained on effective prayer.

This week, I want to talk about how you can grow in greater power and authority in prayer and make it fun!

Know who God really is

Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. 1 John 4:8 NIV

God is love! This is a powerful statement that John makes. This is not head knowledge of who God is—this is a heart revelation of His loving nature for you. Ask God to reveal his love for you.

“Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him.” Matthew 7:9-11

As you understand the true character of God, it will impact your prayer life. I used to believe the Lord was angry with me. I didn’t realize I had an unhealed area in my life that caused me to see the Father as harsh, which left the door open for me to be influenced by the Father of lies. Understanding who God really is has set me free!

When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. John 8:44 NIV

Millions of people are suffering from the influence of the father of lies. If you suffer from this, it’s time to pray and remove the blinders so you can break free!

Jesus taught on prayer

To make prayer fun and to gain greater authority, you can use the Lord’s prayer to pray through things in your life.

The prayer is found in Matthew 6:9–13 NIV:

“This, then, is how you should pray: ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name …’

Spend time worshipping the Lord by singing, praising or whatever it is that connects you with the Lord’s heart.

‘Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven …’

Invite the Kingdom of Heaven to Earth. There is no sickness, death or discouragement in Heaven, so we have authority to bring those heavenly aspects on Earth!

‘Give us today our daily bread …’

You can use this time to go through your prayer requests or needs. It is okay to ask for things, and it is even better when we combine our requests with this model of Jesus.

‘And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors …’

Next, you can spend time repenting and asking the Lord to reveal anything in your life that you need to correct or ask forgiveness. This is not supposed to be a guilty condemnation process! You can do this in the context of the spirit of this prayer to worship the Lord and bring Heaven to Earth.

‘And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’”

Finally, we ask the Lord to protect us from the attacks of evil. Pray that the Lord strengthens you to overcome the things that have been overcoming you.

You have freedom to customize this prayer and make it your own.

Final Encouragement

Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 NIV

Prayer can be both fun and powerful when you have the right tools.
