Get the Honey of Revelation from Past Pain

In this special excerpt, Brian Simmons unpacks a wild Bible story about Samson that illustrates the goodness of God surrounding our pain and trauma.

Below are some notes from our Partners-only Monthly Mentoring Session. These sessions have been recorded and you can access them by becoming a Partner today! Find out more at DougAddison.com/TimeOff

Brian started out the session by giving an illustration that made the Partners laugh:

“Samson was a cross between a juvenile delinquent and Fabio. He was a wild man full of God and power, and he wanted a date. He went on to philistine-harmony.com and he found the girl.”

Brian then recounted how when Samson was on his way to Philistia, he encountered a lion. There are no more lions in that region of the world today, but during Samson’s time there were. A massive lion came out roaring, and the Spirit of God came upon Samson, and he tore the lion in half!

Brian commented how it wasn’t just a lion, but a demonic principality over the region that came against Samson. Principalities come against the breakers and deliverers. The anointing of a deliverer will always spark a response from the principality of the region.

Continuing the story of Samson, Brian told the Partners how the demonized lion came at Samson, and he tore it in half. Samson then told his parents that he found the woman he wanted to marry, and they told him to go down to Philistia. When Samson went, he remembered the lion and went to look at the carcass. This was the place where the trauma had happened (where he got attacked) and he found the honey of revelation.

The honey of revelation is waiting for you in the carcass of your trauma. Go back, but this time … go back with Jesus and discover the honey!

You’re not done until you’ve got the honey scooped out of that carcass. Go back and find the honey …

The most painful situation in Peter’s life had to be his denial of Jesus. He denied the Lord three times, even with profanity. You know the story: Jesus looked at him and Peter went out and wept miserably. After the resurrection, Jesus reenacted the original call of Peter, letting him know that he was still His … even in Peter’s trauma.

It’s interesting to note that Jesus was cooking fish over a charcoal fire. When you flip back to the passage about Peter’s denial, he was standing by a charcoal fire there too. Not only did Jesus reenact Peter’s call, but he let Peter break the self-curse off his own life by asking, “Do you love me?” three times.

Peter’s story can also be a reminder for us to go back to what hurt, and we’ll find honey in the carcass of our lions.
