In this special excerpt, Doug Addison is back from sabbatical and ministering to the Partners. He releases what the Lord is showing him in this season.
Below are some notes from our Partners-only Monthly Mentoring Session Q&A. These sessions have been recorded and you can access them in full by becoming a Partner today! Find out more at DougAddison.com/Give.
Partner question: I’ve been having trouble sleeping lately. Is there a different tactic for night vs. day?
Doug’s answer: Yes, just put on the armor (Ephesians 6). I put on the armor in the morning and at night… Several times a day as well!
You can put on the helmet of salvation, the breastplate of righteousness, the belt of truth, the shoes of the readiness or the preparation to walk in the gospel of peace… The sword of the Spirit and the shield of faith.
I highly recommend getting the armor on, even if you have to do it more than once. And just keep the armor… on a regular basis. Also, pray Bible verses.
Psalm 3 is powerful for sleep. You can decree some parts of Psalm 3 and 4. Find Bible verses that work and pray them with someone as well.
Sometimes the Lord will wake you up to pray. At other times, the enemy is messing with you. But what’s intended for evil will be used for good.
If the enemy is messing with you or your sleep, then just begin to pray and the Lord will use everything for the good, for those who love Him. If you need to get up and pray, that’d be great, or you can lay there in bed and pray.
This is a time of transition, and so we’re seeing all kinds of different things happen right now. It’s not a one-size-fits-all when it comes to our life.
We all live in different regions and, and different parts of the world, and we’re in different seasons as well—all of us.
We can be in a similar season together, like I’m releasing this word about breakthrough, but each individual may be walking through something different, so keep that in mind as well.
Don’t let the enemy get you down or take you out or anything. Greater is the one who is in you than the one who is in the world.
Begin to prophesy and decree Bible verses.
I really love Psalm 28:6: Praise be to the Lord, for he has heard my cry for mercy.
Find verses and begin to cry out to the Lord. You can also do this in the form of singing.
Have mercy on me, Lord! Have mercy on my daytime and my nighttime. I cry out for You, and I praise You.
Speak in the spirit, or however you want to, but praise the Lord. He has heard your cry for mercy.
Partner question: In this season of transition, has the Lord prompted you and Linda to move away from California?
Doug’s answer:  We’re in a season right now where we’re caring for Linda’s mom, and so, it is very expensive here and we’re waiting on the Lord. We’re not planning on moving or anything, but we do pray for provision and protection.
We live in Los Angeles, and we pray for protection and provision to live here. We haven’t heard anything about moving yet or doing anything like that. We do continue to honor Linda’s mom and pray for her healing. I pray for all of us right now in Jesus’ name.
Partner question: Do attacks only come when the Lord lifts His “hand of protection?” I was recently in a car accident while trying to obey the Lord.
Doug’s answer: Attacks come, but they do not come from the Lord. Attacks come from the enemy. That’s the bottom line.
The attacks are trying to stop you from getting to the Lord.
And so, don’t blame the Lord… that’s the best thing you can do. I know you might get upset but turn it around and cry out to the Lord for provision.
I’m so sorry that you got into a horrible wreck, but that is definitely a sign that you might be on the right trail.
When the enemy comes in like a flood, ask the Lord to raise up the new standard against him.
In other words, ask the Lord to show you what you need to do. Pray for provision, healing, and protection.
Keep the armor on and stay in prayer. Maybe you need to raise up greater prayer and intercession around you. Stay in touch with people and get a prayer covering.
