In this special excerpt, Doug Addison is ministering to the Partners. He brings prophetic insight to several questions from a recent Q&A.
Below are some notes from the latest Partners-only Monthly Mentoring Session. Partners have access to every session that has ever been recorded. And you can access them all in full by becoming a Partner today! Find out more at DougAddison.com/Give.
Question #1
Partner: Why is there such a long delay on some prophetic words?
Doug’s answer: It depends on the words. Some of them could have been a word for that season… especially words about marriage.
You must realize something else: maybe God spoke to you, and maybe it was what He wanted for your life, but the other person involved said no. God is not a dictator, and if the other person says no, that kind of shifts everything.
Maybe it’s a financial word that you’re awaiting to come to pass, and you need to continue to press in for the breakthrough.
The things of the Lord are not always easy to understand, but He’ll uncomplicate it for you. Spend some time with the Lord, especially right now.
We’re getting the Jeremiah 29:11 confirmation, we’re getting the armor, we’re getting the sword of the Lord, which is the Word of God.
We’re also getting this new season of Isaiah 43, where God is doing a new thing. Sometimes you have to let go, “cash in” your older stuff and ask the Lord to give you an update. Others may need to press in; it depends on what God is saying to you.
Question #2
Partner: How do we know when it’s time to let go of an old season and move on to the next?
Doug’s answer: That depends on each individual. It’s a great question! It helps to have people around you that are positive and that you can agree with. Where two agree together, it will be done. One can put 1,000 to flight, two can put 10,000… and a cord of three strands is not easily broken (Mt 18:19; Dt 32:30; Eccl 4:12).
So when it comes to hearing God and knowing the timing, you don’t necessarily have to trust everybody. Some people won’t speak the most positive things into your life, but find someone that you can agree with in prayer.
I’ve always had a prayer team around me. I’ve got different ones in agreement through text or in person, how ever you want to do it. But it helps to have someone that you can come into agreement with in prayer because it will break off those strongholds that are trying to hold you back.
I talked a little bit about this in my book Hearing God Every Day. It takes time to know whether things are for now or for a later time.
Question #3
Partner: What can we do to get the Holy Spirit to move more in our local church?
Doug’s answer: Good question! It’s in the Lord’s hands. We pray for our church. We’ve been part of many churches—planting and pastoring for years and it’s not easy. You’ve got to put it in the hands of the Lord and pray for your pastor and your leaders every day.
We pray for the move of the Holy Spirit over our leadership and then ask the Lord to change their heart, if needed. They may be hearing something different than you are. Trust the Lord to speak to them and He will. Sometimes what you’re hearing may be a mixture of your own desires and the desires of the Lord, but it’s just not the timing yet.
That’s why the internet is so powerful! Local churches don’t always have everything that you need. It’s almost impossible to have the five-fold ministry operating in a local church and also have 100% good worship. Sometimes you see that, but not often. So you’ve got to have grace and maybe supplement your life with worship from the internet. You can tune into other live streams as well—that’s a cool thing today!
Question #4
Partner: How can I minimize warfare when I receive new revelation?
Doug’s answer: That’s really what this month’s word is about, the sword of the Lord, and how you do it—it’s by putting on the armor. There’s the Ephesians 6 armor… put it on as much as you can. Take up the sword! I saw the Lord giving us the armor of war right now.
I’m not under anything except the blood of Jesus. I’m not under warfare, I’m getting or receiving warfare, but I’m not going to accept warfare as a reality. I speak the opposite of it right now!
I put on the armor every day. I take up the sword of the Spirit and I find others to agree in prayer as well. The best way to do it: go back through this entire message. This month is really kind of a road map through warfare. Listen to it again, take notes and begin to pray victory into existence!
