New Wave of God: Love and Mercy

Sea waves backgroundNew Wave of God: Love and Mercy
Doug Addison

Are there people in your life that annoy you? Maybe you have family or friends that have different beliefs and values than you do, and it causes friction between you. If so, then this is a great opportunity to extend God’s grace to them and watch your situation change.

God is releasing a new wave of His love and mercy. Where there has been a heavy stand on doctrine and beliefs, it’s now time to extend acceptance to the outcasts, the broken-hearted and those beaten down by religion. Love will overflow to bring justice.

I was irritated
Recently I was coming out of a coffee shop in Los Angeles only to be accosted by a panhandler looking for money. I was irritated partly because of this person’s attitude, treating me as if I owed him money.

I decided that day to ask him his name. He stopped as if no one had ever asked before. He told me his name and I asked him about his tattoo that read, “If I don’t laugh I will cry.” I don’t usually give people on the street money. Instead I sometimes buy gift cards so they will not buy drugs. I gave him one and it only took my slowing down to change the situation. There is always a real person inside everyone we meet.

How to turn around any situation
Maybe you have heard me talk about how you can change the spiritual atmosphere around you? The secret is simply found in the spiritual principle of “what you sow is what you reap.”

If you find yourself seeing negative things in others or your situation then that is all you will see—whether it is reality or not. You can change your focus and turn a situation around instantly. The reason this is important is that there is power in our thoughts, words and prayers.

Usually people who are negative have been wounded, possibly by someone who could have extended them love. When it is in our power, we need to find ways to “bless and not curse.” This often requires being inconvenienced, since we will need to be intentional and proactive.

Spiritual complaint department
I sometimes joke around saying that I put in three good opinions of people for every negative complaint in Heaven when I’m praying because I like to balance out the complaint ecosystem.

It may seem funny, but in some respects it’s true. You overcome negativity with the positive. This is to help offset a negative legalistic view of God that has crept into many people’s beliefs. A big sign of this legalism is when you see people moving from grace and mercy to rules and judgment. God is love and He is always calling us to grow in love and compassion.

When we lose touch
When we stand too firm for what we believe, then we can lose touch with grace, mercy and God’s heart for people in need around us. God is revealing these negative beliefs now.

If you find yourself doing some of these things the best way to deal with it is to stop yourself and be humble towards others. God is releasing a new power to love the unlovely.

What can we do?
There are some easy ways to show love in practical terms.
• Find someone to bless.
• Look around at your situation and focus on what’s good.
• Check your own thought process.

Best of all: love
Let’s take advantage of each opportunity to be useful to God as we show love. “And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.” 1 Corinthians 13:13 NIV

Blessings,

In January while sorting out a new direction for my life and ministry I heard a word from the Lord, “Can you love the unlovely and serve the undeserving?” It has become my plumbline. I am resonating with your ministry and appreciate your words to the body of Christ.

Doug, I had a dream several years ago that there would be widespread revival of Gods love so great that even Broadway plays would be written about it. People every where would be talking and experiencing the presence of God. It would be the last days revival of God’s love that would bring people to Jesus.

Hi Doug, I so appreciate that you send these messages to me via email because I do not blog. This particular message was so good and really speaks to one of the things I believe so many of us who say we are God’s children have a hard time with. We tend to judge people and then when we walk away God convicts us. Its good to have reminders from you. God bless you and keep sending your awesome messages of support and hope to those of us who are struggling with different issues.

Hi Doug, thanks for this. I discovered the power of genuine respect recently when I asked my sister (who has been involved with New Age thinking for many years) to articulate her World View for me. I just listened and didn’t try to sell her on my version of how I see things or point out our differences. Sine then, we have really been enjoying spending time together and I don’t feel resistance (or a sense that she needs me to agree with her point of view) from her all the time in our conversations. (Praise God!) Respect is the forerunner of affection and as they say: “They don’t care how much you know, until they know how much you care”

So helped my attitude today. I was going to a church that I loved. But my spouse wasnt going. He suddenly changed and wanted to start going, but not to my church. Being a good wife, I have been going with him to the church he picked out.
From the first time we attended, I didnt like it. I felt like I never would like it there. I have made up my mind to stop seeing only a negative situation and get involved with the ladies groups. None of the ladies have invited me to join in, so I am going to put myself out there and love em any way. Maybe my personal ministry is to show them God’s heart and this is an opportunity for me to grow in love and compassion.
    Yall pray for me.

Thank you Doug for sharing this word. It ripples true in my spirit. I am walking through such a season now.
I use to hit people hard with the Word of the Bible, (until I understood a rubber mallet instead of metal hammer may suffice). I know healing is a part of the calling on my life. Through 2 strokes, (resulting in speech, memory and gait issues), deteriorating spine, prescription drugs for pain and depression, (despise them), earthly doctors guessing games , a snake bite, etc. I have gained understanding and unconditional love and acceptance for so many that are disabled, caught up in addictions, fallen into black holes of poverty, (financial, physical and spiritual), etc. There are so many not able to gather in the Corporate Presence and Anointing in a church building. They may not be physically able to get there, (like me), beat down and battle weary, (me again), or the judgemental condition of the Church today makes them retreat into isolation. Our Heavenly Father is training us to abide in Him, outside of church settings. In God’s love and mercy I am still standing. Hallelujah!

Really good spiritual advice…I just have a question…when we are we are faced with the issue of same sex marriage…are we being legalistic when we oppose it? I totally understand loving others…when those we love want to change Gods’ word, something has to give.

I think the difference between legalism and living out what we believe to be a godly life is when we place the law above Grace and mercy. Even Jesus said to just walk away if someone rejects you and shake the dust off your feet. Never does he say to stay around and argue the law with them. That is what the Pharisees did. That was what Jesus checked them on most of the time.

Maybe instead of focusing on where you disagree with someone on gay marriage, just humbly state that you see it differently and then find where you have common ground…bless them and let God worry about his word in relation to the other person’s life. None of us are really getting it all completely right anyway.

Hi Michael, I wonder about where the edges of these things are as well? So far, what I’m up to in my decisions is that God sets us all free to decide for ourselves whether we want to follow Him (who am I to take issue with another’s decision for their life?) But the thing I don’t like is when the gay lobby tries to bully me into agreeing with their ever increasing agenda for legitimacy – that’s not fair because I should also be able to freely have my position.

Spot on!!! I have been recognizing and turning away from these thoughts for this very reason in a close family relationship – asking and asking for HELP! Just this morning (quite a bit recently) in fact.
The enemy would say to us…”things will never change, you will never change”…..but NO! God is FAITHFUL! What a blessing this article is! Thank you for sharing. 🙂

Thank you Doug. I am always praying to know the Love of Christ. What it is, what it looks, like, how it behaves. Because my past relationships have been abusive and now my girls and granddaughter are involved with abusive partners. Years ago we thought we were supposed to live with them if we were Christians. I am still trying to sort it all out and explain to my children. So I am hungry to know the love of Jesus!

I literally just had a dream about this topic last night. There was girl that was trying to steal a ring I had laid on a counter. I saw her and moved to get the ring before she could follow through with temptation. She got a hold of it, but I also got a hold of part of it and was not ugly to her about it, but wouldn’t let go of the ring. When I had the ring completely back in my possession, I followed her to love on her and let her know that she was valued and loved by God.
