Do you feel like you’re exactly where you’re supposed to be, but aren’t sure how it fits in with God’s plan for your life?
There seems to be this idea in our society that reaching our goals and going after our life purpose should make sense all the way through to completion.
But the road to your destiny is not a linear one. In fact, there will be many points in your journey where you’re not sure if you even heard God for your life at all.
King David before he was king
King David was not always king. He was once a young shepherd, tending his father’s flock (1 Samuel 16).
When the day came that the Prophet Samuel anointed him as the future king of all Israel, David did something incredibly interesting. He did not go and challenge the current King Saul.
No, he went straight back to tending his father’s flock before he was called upon by King Saul to be his personal musician (1 Samuel 16:18-20).
Can you imagine yourself as a young David for the moment? You’ve been told that your destiny is to be king of all Israel, yet here you are playing the lyre for the guy who has the job you’re supposed to have!
That would seem confusing to me if I didn’t already know how this story turns out.
Be excellent in all you do
Before he became king, David had many other jobs and did them all with excellence. He was a great Psalmist, a warrior, a shepherd, a prophet, a worshiper, a dancer … even a fugitive!
Remember, it was because of these roles and side-journeys that he even became king. Because he didn’t just walk into Israel and declare himself king, David became a man who God was pleased with.
After removing Saul, he made David their king. God testified concerning him: ‘I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.’ Acts 13:22 NIV
Sometimes your journey will not make sense
We seem to have bought into the myth that our lives are supposed to be linear.
For example, a child is told that if they make good grades, they’ll get into a great college, then after that they can have a good career, raise a family, etc.
But our destiny-journeys often look more like playing soccer than running a marathon, just like David’s life.
Running a marathon is pretty straight forward, the starting point is at one end and the finish line at the other. This is what it would have looked like if David had walked into Israel and formally declared himself king right after the Prophet Samuel anointed him.
But in soccer, the ball is kicked to other teammates, there is strategy to be learned and mastered, other people affect the game, and sometimes a player has to run backwards in order to push the game forward.
God knows the end from the beginning
It’s important to understand that God knows your end from the beginning. We can trust Him with our lives because He has the blueprint in front of Him.
So, if you know God has called you to do great things, but you feel like a young David right now, don’t be afraid. Enjoy the journey.
I’m so thankful David wasn’t “just a king.” It’s because his journey to kingship was not linear that we have the Psalms. Where would we be without them?
Watch for God to reveal your next steps!
Blessings!

Awesome Elizabeth! God bless you!
I woke up to read your daily prophecy that I receive every morning, and found tryout blog on “Your Destiny is not a Straight Line.” This is what I’ve been asking God about. I seem to be in a place that doesn’t make sense to me, but I’m learning to trust God through it, because I have to admit, I was really disappointed , but I asked myself, “Do you or will you trust God no matter what He or how does things in your life?” I believe you, it is a journey!!!! I’m asking Him everyday to guide my steps ( almost every millisecond)because I’m not sure what He is doing.
I felt the Lord was speaking to me when I read your message the moment I woke up at 4 am to get ready for work. I said, “Thank You, Jesus, for this Word!”
Sincerely,
Ms. Johnson

Hye Aneika! I am so glad that Doug’s prophetic words have been encouraging for you. Many blessings to you!!
i watched a video of Kat Kerr from March 8 2019. In this video she is speaking about the white stone written in Revelation 2:17. i always wanted to know about this white stone. The white stone is actually a diamond and as she was explaining this revelation, i read in my mind’s eye the name Kyria. i ‘saw’ this name was living, flowing in this big bright diamond environment, which in itself was also alive. i searched for the meaning of the word. Kyria is taken from the root Kyrian which means From the Lord, Of the Lord. Kyria is a female greek name which means Lady, Flower, Bright and could even mean Handmaiden of the Lord. It is the name John used in 2 John verse 1 when he addresses the lady chosen by God. i asked the Lord confirmation of this name and while being on the road, i saw two times the name of a hotel business called Kyriad. They are only established in France and their slogan is Do, Dare, Dream ! It is reminding me to keep going and to dream BIG !
Cool! Thanks for sharing!
I LOVE the picture intro to this blog. Plan A, Plan B and real life! It cracked me up and made me smile at the truth of our lives. Real life is that way isn’t it? It’s messy. I am amazed when I look back and recount all the things I have learned during the last season. It has been really tough and most times I questioned myself, but thru all the folding and pounding and refolding and more pounding, God is making me a tempered sword of unimaginable strength and that is what we need to hold on to. Thanks to you Doug and your great team for continuing to give us encouragement, and for sharing your insight, wisdom and strength with us. May God bless you and your ministry richly.
Haha yes! I am glad you enjoyed it Rachel! God bless you!
Good word Thank you
God bless you Christine!
