4 Secrets to Powerful Prayer

This is a time of transition and we are moving into a new season. This is why the Lord is releasing a new ability, power and anointing to pray—even if you are not an intercessor!

I recently released a prophetic word for November on this that will impact you for the next few months. This week, I want to share a few secrets on how to pray with more power.

God’s purpose in the shaking

We have been walking through a global shaking, but the Lord is still in command and has not forgotten you.

“This is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘In a little while I will once more shake the heavens and the earth, the sea and the dry land. I will shake all nations, and what is desired by all nations will come, and I will fill this house with glory,’ says the Lord Almighty. Haggai 2:6-7 NIV

The Lord’s desire is for us to move in greater levels of power and His glory. He is calling people into a deeper place of intimacy and personal renewal is taking place.

The result will shake open new “hotspots of the Lord’s power and healing.”

‘The glory of this present house will be greater than the glory of the former house,’ says the Lord Almighty. ‘And in this place I will grant peace,’ declares the Lord Almighty.” Haggai 2:9 NIV

The Lord is using everything happening to release a greater level of His glory—greater power, anointing and healing. In the midst of it all, He is releasing peace to stand in the storm.

No weapon formed against you shall prosper … Isaiah 54:17 NKJV

You have the power and the authority to stop the attacks against you. The Lord has given you everything you need to succeed.

Secrets to powerful prayer

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9 NIV

1. Confess your sins to the Lord.

According to 1 John 1:9, this will cleanse you of unrighteousness and align you with James 5:16 NIV which says, “The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.”

It is important to keep your slate clean with the Lord. Even if you are struggling with repeated sin, don’t stop confessing—this keeps you connected with the Lord.

2. Pray with other people.

This allows you to come into agreement, and there is greater power when we agree with others.

Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken. Ecclesiastes 4:12 NIV

3. Pray creatively.

There are no set rules or formats for prayer. I used to think I had to be formal, but the Lord wants to relate with us like sons and daughters toward a loving Father.

You can easily combine prayer with your daily activities like doing housework, driving, or exercising.

I try to do a structured prayer each day to make sure that I cover people I am praying for. I use prayer outlines as a guideline only—there is freedom to pray and interact with God.

4. Pray in the Spirit.

So what shall I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my understanding; I will sing with my spirit, but I will also sing with my understanding. 1 Corinthians 14:15 NIV

Apostle Paul said that you can pray with your spirit, which means that you might not understand what you’re praying while speaking in tongues. Other times, you might pray with your mind and understanding. Both are needed.

Praying and singing in the spirit is a very powerful combination, as it bypasses your mind and connects you directly to the Lord.
