Tips on How to Pray

We are in a time of transitioning into a new season.

Transition is not always easy because the very things we have done in the past might not be working now, and the “new” has not yet been fully revealed.

The Lord is calling us to step up to a three-month (or so) special assignment of prayer.

Prayer is something we all know is good for us. But sometimes, it’s the last thing we do, even though it has the most impact on our lives.

One of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God. Luke 6:12 NIV

Jesus prayed! You don’t have to spend the entire night or day in prayer, but the Lord might be leading you to at least pray with greater focus.

Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:16–18 NIV

You can be in a place of praying and communing with God all the time. This can be done inside your head, directing your thoughts to Him. Or take moments when He moves you to pray and worship.

A key to this is to combine your prayers with worship or with others. Rejoice and be thankful. As you do this it will change the spiritual atmosphere around you.

Greater power together

Satan has gotten us out of unity by hitting us with attacks of violence and instilling fear and uncertainty.

Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. Matthew 18:19 NIV

This does not mean that everything you ask for is going to happen, but the point Jesus was making was the power of agreement.

One can put 1,000 to flight and two … 10,000! (Deuteronomy 32:30)

Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken. Ecclesiastes 4:12 NIV

This shows that if you are praying alone, you can be overcome. There is greater power in agreement!

This doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t pray alone, but if you have things that are strongholds, it might take greater authority in numbers to break it.

We can pray and agree with the Bible and the Lord as we flow with the powerful principles of the Bible and stay away from bringing judgments.

Jesus brings you peace

I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world. John 16:33 NIV

Jesus was into prayer

Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. Romans 8:34 NIV

Because of what Jesus did by dying on the cross and overcoming death, He was given authority and He has delegated that to us.

Right now, Jesus is interceding for you at the right hand of the Father. Once you grasp that revelation, then you can have greater authority in your prayers.

And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus. Ephesians 2:6 NIV

You are seated with Christ in the heavenly realms and when you pray you have great authority. The key to this is to allow your spirit to connect with the Lord, far above the things around you.

The plan of the enemy is to try to knock you out of this place of peace and authority. He will often use fear and doubt.

When this happens just get back and take authority over those thoughts and reconnect with the Lord.

Praying in the spirit

So what shall I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my understanding; I will sing with my spirit, but I will also sing with my understanding. 1 Corinthians 14:15 NIV

Praying in the spirit can be in tongues, but it doesn’t have to be. Sometimes you pray from a list and other times you can flow freely with your requests.

There is a lot of power in singing and worshiping your prayers to the Lord!

In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. Romans 8:26 NIV

Don’t let the tongues part get you discouraged. Ask God to give you new songs that you can sing to Him!

How to pray

Ask the Lord to put an end to violence and bring peace.

Bring to an end the violence of the wicked and make the righteous secure—you, the righteous God who probes minds and hearts. Psalm 7:9 NIV

Ask the Lord to open your eyes and give you revelation on how to pray.

  • Pray for the disunity and violence to be healed.
  • Pray for financial strategies to be revealed by the Lord.
  • Pray as the Lord leads you.

Blessings,
