The Armor of God Stops Retaliation of Your Prayers

In this special excerpt, Doug Addison is back from sabbatical and ministering to the Partners. He releases what the Lord is showing him in this season.

Below are some notes from our Partners-only Monthly Mentoring Session. These sessions have been recorded and you can access them in full by becoming a Partner today! Find out more at DougAddison.com/Give.

Partner question: What can I do to stop retaliation when I pray for others?

Doug’s answer: Try putting on the armor of God when you’re praying.

Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Ephesians 6:13–17 NIV

Also, try doing some different types of prayers. If you’re experiencing retaliation, it doesn’t necessarily mean that you should stop praying, but it could be that the Lord is adjusting how you pray.

Lord, we pray that you would protect us from all backlash and retaliation, in Jesus’ name.

Partner question: Do you have a specific word for overcoming migraine headaches?

Doug’s answer: I don’t have a specific word except standing on the Word. With migraines and anything that’s chronic, it’s not easy, but that doesn’t mean that the Lord’s not going to heal you.

I’ve had to walk through some healing processes, and some people don’t understand it.  Healing can be a process.

You can receive instant healing, or steps towards healing and the process.

Find a way to agree with others in prayer. If it’s something chronic, like migraines or chronic sickness, it may be a little bit on the heavy side… It takes more.

Jesus even said, “This one comes out with prayer and fasting.” Each time is different, and it could be a different process.

One time Jesus made mud to heal someone, another time He told the person to go wash in the pool. Another time He simply said to go, and it would be done.

Jesus himself was teaching the fact that we need to look at things as a process. I know that we have the Holy Spirit, and we have the Lord, so don’t be discouraged.

It’s been a process for me to get healed of chronic things. There have been steps to take and I’m still standing. I want to encourage everyone who’s going through something right now!

Partner question: I like your new hairstyle and glasses. What do you see ahead for this new chapter?

Doug’s answer: Thank you very much. I did get a new hairstyle and new glasses.

I’m just feeling that we need to stand and command things into place. I’ve been standing these verses:

For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm. Psalm 33:9 NIV

The Lord will command things! And you can command things into place.

So go back and look at some of these verses. This month, I feel Psalm 27:3 really strongly.

Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then I will be confident.

Also, these verses:

For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways. Psalm 91:11 NIV

For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm. Psalm 33:9 NIV

The season that we’re in is for the Lord to command these things over us. And it’s for us to command things into place.

It might be a process, and some steps you’ll take will be instant. Even the above verses can shift things over you.
