Harness Your Thoughts For A Powerful Destiny

Man using scissors to remove the word can't to read I can do it concept for self belief, positive attitude and motivation

There is a clear connection between what you think about yourself and reaching your highest calling. Let’s look at 3 key ways to harness your thoughts to bring dynamic change, resulting in a powerful destiny and a better life.

First, we need to unpack the biggest destiny-derailer: negative thoughts.

You Are Not Your Negative Thought

Here is what I mean. Negative forces want you to believe bad things about yourself like: “I am depressed. I am worthless. I cannot change. I am stupid. I am ugly. I am such a failure …” the list could go on and on.

It is important to realize that your thoughts, feelings and behaviors are situational and you can change them. The reality is that feelings and behaviors are not who you really are. You may struggle with your thoughts, but that is not your identity in Christ. Most people do not see that there is a direct connection between the way they view themselves and their destiny.

“For as he thinks in his heart, so is he. Proverbs 23:7a, NKJV

Many of the thoughts and behaviors we battle daily have a root cause—something we have done, knowingly or unknowingly, or things that were done to us. Healing these emotional wounds can be a process. If you commit yourself to the journey, you can overcome them. It is a part of your destiny to find healing and live healed.

Keys to Powerful, Positive Thoughts and Destiny:

1. Diffuse the Power of Negative Thoughts by Inviting God In.
My life turned around for the good when I realized that I spent too much time beating myself up for having negative or lustful thoughts. I remember the day that I invited God to walk with me like a loving father would. I prayed and asked for an extra measure of grace to get me through each day. Surprisingly, when I stopped focusing on the negative thoughts and talked to God about them as they were happening, they began to lose their power over me and eventually became less of a driving force in my thought life.

 2. Do Not Beat Yourself Up.
Another key to recovery is not beating yourself up. When you invite God into each moment of your imperfection, He will not be surprised by your thoughts or behavior. God loves you just the same as always. Be gentle with yourself while you change. Learn to enjoy your life even though you are not yet perfected. Progress toward your destiny is what you want.

“You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.” 1 John 4:4 NIV

3. Do Not Live in the Recovery Room.
We live in a therapeutic society with a diagnosis for just about everything. When you start worrying about your dog suffering from Separation Anxiety Disorder, you know there is an over-focus on labeling people and situations. There is, however, value in recognizing negative patterns; I am not trying to downplay the effects of pain, addiction and abuse. But, we need to find a way to identify the negative pattern, get healed and leave the recovery room.

Your identity is in the new life God has given you, not the old life that tried to destroy you.

These keys will help you take daily steps straight to your destiny. Believe it!

Blessings,

doug-sig

Hello Doug. I live miles away in NZ. Thank God we are all bound together by His amazing love and grace. I have experienced myself His healing of depression. It had me in its grip for a long period. One night in a service, I was drawn to kneel at the empty cross in our church. I suffered alone with Him, no one came to comfort me. It was part of his plan. I found out what it meant for him to be alone forsaken by his Father, left alone on the cross. He met me that night and my life will never be the same. His spirit is in me, using me, giving me courage to speak to people I have known for years, about God’s amazing grace. I thank Him for the friend who sent your blog to my email tonight.. I have been a Christian for a long time, but His spirit was not with me. Thank God it is now. I have been healed so amazingly, that life has a whole new meaning and mission for me at the age of 69. “He who calls you is able, He also WILL do it.” Praise God.

doug, blessed by your word. i found this thought of yours particularly powerful: “your identity is in the new life God has given you, not the old life that tried to destroy you.” i find great help and encouragement, and also strength, in “dreaming with god” about the new life he wants for me, based on scripture of course. god spoke to paul in the night by a vision (acts 18:9), he is the same today and desires to unveil the most marvellous things to his children–you and me–through dreams, as doug also teaches. since i discovered the messages and power in dreams, my life has changed. god has shown me many good things to come!! he shows them, but we need to listen and receive. life gets exciting when we stop looking backward to the past and how satan tried to destroy us. this is where the enemy wants us, in a sad position without perspective, groaning about past pain and regrets. NO MORE. i learned that lesson. the past is gone and over, it has no power over this day. we need to discipline ourselves to look ahead. god has GIVEN US NEW LIFE, but we must TAKE IT!

Doug, I had to laugh when you said about worrying about “separation anxiety disorder” over a dog. That is because I do that when I have to leave my little doggy for a month or more. She is 12 yrs old and can’t handle being away from us. But now it is “trust God ” time . You hit if right on. Thank you bunches.

Spot on ! My wife and I have been deeply discussing this topic over the past few weeks (and today as well – even before I read this post) and sharing on the identical scriptures.

I thank God for the confirmation.

Doug: As always you hit the nail on the head. God has been talking about me for years about saying who I am in Christ. We need to focus who we are in Christ. But at the same time we need to say positive things about ourselves and our future. When you start saying, “I am a millionaire,” believe in your heart and mind that you are a millionaire. Whatever God is calling you to do, then positively confess that is what you will become.
Sooner or later things will materialize in your life. Your life will take on a whole new direction and level to the Glory of God!
