What You Focus on Matters

FocusWhat You Focus on Matters

Doug Addison

How you view a situation is vital. If you continually focus on what is wrong or the reasons why you can’t do something, you eventually convince yourself that you can’t change the situation, whether it is based on fact or not. There is a spiritual principle that what you focus on continually eventually comes to you.

If you search for good, you will find favor; but if you search for evil, it will find you! (Proverbs 11:27 NLT)

We can create self-fulfilling prophecies about ourselves and our situation based on what we focus on. You may not be seeking evil intent, but this verse in Proverbs shows that you get what you search for or put your energy into. If you continually think that you are a failure, then you probably fail often, at least in your own mind.

We can derail our destiny by focusing on negative things. We also can get weighed down with emotional baggage that we may not know is there. For instance, if you have a large amount of debt and you are continually thinking about how bad being in debt feels, most likely you will carry the stress of the situation with you through your entire life. It is like a weight around your neck and can bring shame and even hopelessness.

A solution is to decide right now that you will put a debt reduction plan in place and get on with life. Place the feelings of failure and shame in God’s hands, and begin to put your thoughts and energy into finding creative ways to earn additional money. Have fun in the process and you will have instant change!

Have you ever thought someone did something wrong to you? Did you get angry and hurt only to find out when you talked to the person that they had no bad intentions at all? What happened to your hurt and anger? It went away immediately because you were no longer focused on it, and you got a new perspective. We can train ourselves to get a new perspective on everything that happens to us.

Learning to change your perspective is a step toward renewing your mind as mentioned in Romans 12:2 (“…be transformed by the renewing of your mind”). We can choose to focus on good things, and if we do this regularly, our outlook on life will change dramatically. We will begin to see the positive in the midst of difficulty.

Where your focus goes, your energy flows.

Decide ahead of time what you are going to focus on. With just a small amount of effort, you can learn to turn bad situations into good ones. You can learn to make the most of every situation. It is not worth getting upset! Some people say life is too short to be upset or angry. I have always thought that life is too long to do it as well.

Enjoy life by focusing on all the good!

Blessings,

doug-sig

Last night I dreamed that my boyfriend and I were laying in in bed and we were both rubbing my stomach and we felt a baby inside of me , I could feel and see the head moving and he just kept lightly rubbing on my stomach while the baby moved . We have unprotected sex about everyday but it hasn’t been on my mind at all about me being pregnant . We thought I was pregnant a few months ago because I missed 2 periods , I know that unprotected sex leads to pregnancy but what could this dream mean ? Please help .

Dreams are like metaphors or stories that use symbols to tell you something from God. Sometimes they are from your own soul and sometimes they are fear dreams sent by the devil to stop you from moving forward into the things God wants you to do.

Visions are more literal and are what they seem to be.

So if this was a dream, then the dream is about God “birthing” a new purpose and direction for you and your boyfriend. This could mean a lot of different things… better communication, better intimacy, more commitment, etc..

If this was a vision, then it could be a heads up that pregnancy is coming. You can ask God to show you what the dream means and then watch and see what time brings. But if you do not want to get pregnant, then you might want to stop having sex 😮 Blessing your life and all the God has in store for you 🙂

I keep having dreams about having twins and triplets……. And my fiance and I are trying to have a baby and nothing had happened any ideas on if it could be a sign that I may be having a child?

This is great advise. I was just let go from my job and I struggle with staying focused because I’ve been through these kinds of things and the conclusion was not good. Fear creeps in and I see what had occurred in the past of not finding a job and experiencing financial crisis’s. I sense losing this job is Gods way of moving me to the next level of a new place in him included with a new job with same pay or better pay. Learning to trust God and allow Him to lead us is possible when all seems to be going well, but it becomes a little scary when you don’t know where your headed. But understanding to stay focused and see the opportunities and possibilities brings strength and hope, its just getting our mind and heart to see beyond our circumstances.

I read this post several days ago, but didn’t “focus” sharply on it. Today in reading The One Year Living Bible, Romans 12:1-21 was part of what was on tap. I read that before I read today’s daily prophetic here. I also went back to this word on the blog not realizing that Romans 12:2 was at the heart of it. Yesterday, the 28th was a “change day”; I have moved through many change days feeling un-changed. These “connections” are encouraging & confirming that my spiritual rudder is having its hinges tightened and my vision is coming into “Focus”. Thank you.

Powerful principle. I’m learning to focus on what I’m thankful for, instead of the dream I don’t see fulfilled yet. As I do, I’m definitely finding more joy now, and finding it’s easier and easier to wait and enjoy the process!

You’re right, this way of thinking is called having “The mind of Christ”. Jesus said that he had nothing in common with our enemy so satan therefore had no power over Him. Out focus should be on our BIG & loving God.

Hi Doug. This is exactly what the Lord has been saying to me over the past two days. It’s a choice to make. I’m beginning to realise more and more God is the answer for everything. If something comes that takes my focus off Him and feels too big for me, that is the perfect time to hand over control of that situation to His hands, not mine. So I’m learning to let go and in doing so I’m learning to not look at what I see with my earthly eyes and see the bad. I now see good everywhere, in places, people and situations I wouldn’t have noticed before. I see how He changes things right before me and its a wonderful thing seeing His love in action and knowing deep within me that He is with me no matter what the situation. Thank you my Lord.

I’m not an expert on marrige but Start focus on Jesus by worshiping Him and start speak victory over your marrige! I think it wount get worse! Gods’ Word is fire like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces! Our circumstances and problems rising up like rocks but when we speak Gods’ Word out load the circumstances have to obey! The enemy comes only for to kill steal and destroy but God came to give us life abundent! Do not give up on your marrige! Or believe that your husband never will love you again, that is a lie from hell! Start praise and worsip Him, every day, and believe His promises, there is a victory. When you start speak His Word then you’ll start believe what it sayes and that will give you joy and joy has a tendency to draw people to it self. Nothing is impossible for God!
