How a New Christmas Tradition Gave Me a New Perspective
December 24, 2015

Wow, where did the year go? I cannot believe it is Christmas already!

2015 has gone by fast, so it is good to slow down at Christmas and reflect on the things that really matter. God gave us the most amazing gift of love through Christ.

Yet even though Christmas is a time to celebrate, let’s face it, many people find themselves feeling down or stressed out instead. Some of the biggest challenges include loneliness, financial pressure and family conflicts. You can actually rise above all of these things as you gain God’s perspective on your life and situation.

“The mystery in a nutshell is just this: Christ is in you, so therefore you can look forward to sharing in God’s glory. It is that simple.” Colossians 1:27 MSG

Christmas memories
For the first 12 years of my life, I was bombarded with losses and tragedies, including my parents separating just after Christmas when I was 5 years old and my father dying when I was 10. I dreaded the Christmas season because there was often tension and fights during that time.

That all changed when I was 12 years old.

My mom started a new tradition in which we had a family party on Christmas Eve. We had a great spread of food and friends, and family came over. Instead of having to look at all those presents under the tree and wait until Christmas morning, we also started a new tradition of opening our gifts on Christmas Eve.

New traditions
That new Christmas Eve tradition allowed me to gain a new perspective on the holidays. I found myself actually looking forward to our Christmas Eve party.

Even though I still had uneasiness when I thought about the bad memories from childhood, I found that the Christmas party atmosphere allowed me to rise above those things.

What are your traditions? Whether your Christmas memories are great or bad, you can start a new tradition or celebrate an old one. It is really important to establish things in your life that bring joy, especially if you feel down around the holidays.

It is time to do something new
One of the prophetic words that God spoke to me is that we are currently in a time in which we need to “Forget the former things and do not dwell on the past.” Isaiah 43:18 NIV

A few practical ways you can do this is to try something new during the holidays this year.

Take time to listen and reach out to others. If your family situation is stressful, then balance it by spending time with people who are fun and encouraging.

[Tweet “If ur family situation is stressful balance by spending time with people who r fun & encouraging.”]

The more you give, the more you will receive. So give the gift of love and kindness to people around you! If you do not have money, then give what you have–your time, your focus and your love.

Merry Christmas!
Linda and I, and my entire InLight Connection team want to wish you the best Christmas ever. We are so grateful for all of you who support and pray for us. We consider you all a part of our family. I pray that God will open the heavens of blessing and joy over you!

Blessings,

Merry Christmas to Doug and Linda and team and families. I love your ministry and really get encouragement through your daily prophesies. I have a Fat Lil’ Notebook that I write them all down and keep them to refer to. Hey Doug you are so right! This Christmas we started a new tradition that I didn’t realize what I was doing–I mean it was a God thing which you just confirmed to me.?We used to take our whole family to my sisters who has the bigger house and all the decorations. But this year our oldest son and wife had to go out of town and our younger son couldn’t leave his work in New York City. So instead of staying in Missouri and going to my sister’s to get kicked around with her subtle mean remarks to me, my hubby and I are here in NYC to visit our younger son and we have enjoyed them soooo much!!! Please pray for Michael and his girlfriend Olivia . They are such great kids with great hearts. Michael was close to God when he was little and would see Angels and even sat on Jesus’s knee in Heaven in a dream but he has deliberately decided he didn’t want that . But God is so good to him Michael is a man of integrity and does his work well. God has given him blessings of being surrounded with wonderful people. He has been given favor at his work place. His girlfriend is a wonderful caring person who is always reaching out to others. She invited a friend over last night who had no plans for Christmas Eve. AND we discovered that the Brooklyn Tabernackle is less than a block from them!! Pastor Johnson is the pastor there. As we walk by the Tabernackle I pray somehow some way God will get them to go there for I know that church was started with prayer and that they believe in the Super Natural! Thank you for your prayers and encouraging words from God! May God bless you and yours with great health and with so many blessings you won’t have room for them!

    Something to think about.
In Israel they do not celebrate the birth of the Messiah because: 1. No where in the New Testament do you see anyone celebrating the birth of the Messiah. 2. In ancient Israel they did not celebrate birthdays, they celebrated when they died they were promoted to Eternity. 3. Yeshua or Jesus was born in the Fall Feast because John the Baptist Father Zacharius was carrying out his duties in the Temple according to his family allotment and also they knew when Elizabeth and Mary conceived their babies. The shepherds would not have had sheep in the fields in December as it was winter time. and their would be no reason for the Inn to be full as their were very few visitors in the winter. There would be a lot of visitors at the Fall Feast of booths and the Inn would be full at that time.

Oh Doug this is confirmation of a new tradition I just planned last night? We have always read the Christmas story before opening presents. But there always seemed a rush to finish and not give honor to the real “gift” God the Father has given us. So I got this really new inspiration for remembering Christ in Christmas. As we read the Christmas story we assemble and unpack the nativity set. My grandson is four and a little ADHD so maybe being a part of helping to unfold the story with the figures of sheep, shepards, wise men, Mary and Joseph and the sweet precious Jesus will be special. Then this morning the Blessing of Christmas for the new year came to me.
We used to bless my girls each night before the went to sleep I would like to end the story with my husband and I blessing the families and children for the coming years. Pray all these new traditions become good memories of Christmas.
Thank you Doug and beloved team for all you do to this blessed ministry.
    With much love and blessings,
    Sandee

Really sorry that’s your experience. I can understand why you would be so upset. Most Christians have had that moment of “this isn’t meant to be my life” & usually due to no fault of our own.I wish I had words of comfort but there are no words that will fix your situation. At most I can say I will pray your situation will improve by next Christmas. May 2016 be your year. Please hang in there & trust that God will supply all our needs even when we feel He has abandoned us.

Praying for many Blessings on your Christmas celebration this year Doug. I am so very thankful that the Lord led me to your daily prophetic word and I wanted to tell you. It is the very first thing I read each morning and it has inspired and carried me through very challenging times this year! Each day the Holy Spirit touches my heart with love and I am enticed to lean in closer to God and experience His love more deeply. Thank you for not only your listening heart but you incredible commitment to share Gods love with others.
