Conversation with Brad Cummings About ‘The Shack’ [Episode 11]

   Bookmark and Share

Have you heard mixed reactions about The Shack? That stereotype-busting book that got people talking about how they perceive God was just released as a movie last month—making the conversation even livelier!

I’ve released prophetic words about a new anointing coming from Heaven on movies and music. This anointing will open the Father’s heart and release the Holy Spirit right into theaters, bringing emotional and even physical healing.

God is actually using Hollywood to create spiritual movies that are not stories from the Bible; and The Shack unveils God’s heart to today’s spiritually starved culture. And it asks us to reconsider the question: What does God really look like?

In this week’s Spirit Connection podcast episode, my special guest is Brad Cummings, a co-author of The Shack and a producer of the movie. Today you’ll hear his heart about the film and answers to these common questions:

  • Why are Christians so divided about how God is portrayed on screen?
  • Can God use secular movies to deliver spiritual messages?
  • Why do people have a hard time seeing God as a loving father?
  • How have unbelievers responded to the movie?
  • Is it possible to receive healing just by watching a movie?
  • Can emotional healing open the door to physical healing?
  • Is The Shack theologically correct?

Thank you Doug for this Wonderful interview with Brad Cummings about “the Shack”, I loved it!!! I felt Holy Spirit speak, his heart , through Brad, of the true meaning & reason for publishing & making this a movie to reach people’s hearts!! Glory to God for the Great things He is doing in such a time as this!!! God Bless You Doug for all you & your ministry does as a conduit of God!!!! Love you all. Fantastic interview!!

  2. Bonnie says:

I personally loved the book and the movie. It was the first time I realized the role of “Father, Son & Holy Spirit”. And because my Heavenly Father had already showed up to me as my earthly father in a dream, I related to this on a personal level.
Thank you to the 3 men who worked so hard to put it on screen.
    God bless you!

    • Admin Nikki says:

Awesome Bonnie! That’s super cool that you had a dream like that. Thank you for sharing. Bless you!

  3. Betty Galusha says:

In my life there were a couple of extreme circumstances
that the “church” had no answer that could satisfy my heart. Almost 40 years later after some powerful came
through the Vineyard, I had occasion to ask God,”What
have you been doing in my life for the past 3 years?” I
heard Him say.”I’ve been healing you of a broken heart,
not just because of tragic circumstances, but because
you thought you lost my love, which is the true broken heartedness, common in the world and in the church today.”

    • Admin Nikki says:

Wow, Betty. I love that. God is so good. I too went to The Vineyard and had major healing there. Thank you for sharing your experience.

Thank you so much for getting this good info out there for people. Years ago when The Shack came out as a book, I disregarded it because of the Christian community. I did not think it was relevant to me and I wanted to avoid anything that mainstream Christianity called into question. Well, the movie came out and I saw blogs in my Facebook feed about the heresy in The Shack. I did not even read the blogs and again, just avoided the movie completely. But, God kept bringing the movie across my path. People I respected started telling me about how the movie impacted them. I decided to read the book. Well, I loved it! It rang true to my spirit and I recognized the voice of the the Spirit. So, I saw the movie and it impacted me so greatly. I just fell in love with the Father, Son, and Spirit all over again! I have been a Christian for 40 years and I am so glad that God is awakening people like you, Doug, as well as Brad and others to reveal God in such fresh and wonderful ways. God is always new and fresh, yet He never changes. What a wonder He is!

    • Admin Nikki says:

Thank you for sharing Jennifer! I feel as you do, where it made me fall in love all over again with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Bless you!

This book lifted the great sadness off of me along with the bible. The book was better and the movie was good . It was at a prayer group the book was put in my hands.

    • Admin Nikki says:

  7. Patricia Moulton says:

God is not a cookie cutter God. He meets people where and through what can reach them. I loved the book–especially the wisdom encounter and liked it in the movie too. So much about the movie was better than the book. Because of the care and love Father God put into the creators of the movie. Thank you for this interview.

    • Admin Nikki says:

We’re so glad you enjoyed the movie and the interview. The wisdom part was one of my favorites too. Thanks for sharing. Bless you!

well the shack not theologically correct. it by faith we are save. the shack is feel good theologically basely it saids even the unbeliever is saved. it problem with the Luke warm church that does not stand for sound doctrine.

    • Admin Nikki says:

I appreciate your input. This podcast touches base on the film being theologically correct near the last ten minutes.
The main focus of the film was showing the heart of God in a fictional story and answering some tough questions many struggle with.

  9. Marta says:

Thanks for the prayer at the end! I have such a desire for storytelling as well. My daughter is an actress and also now learning directing and has stories in her as well. We are praying the next season, some of them will be released. i have so many things on my heart I want to do, it’s hard to narrow it.

    • Admin Nikki says:

My pleasure! How cool! One step at a time, God will direct your steps. When we delight in God He gives us the desires of our heart.

      Bless you!

  10. Sonya Petty says:

I loved the book and have not yet seen the movie. Christians need to realize that it is FICTION being used to get people to see God in a new fresh loving way. Just as C.S Lewis’ “The Chronicles of Narnia” can be viewed from a Biblical frame of mind and have the lion, Aslan, portray a Christ-like figure, so can this book and movie do the same. I am in favor of anything that points us to our Savior, Jesus Christ, the working of the Holy Spirit in our lives and of course, the LOVE of our Father.

    • Admin Nikki says:

Thanks for sharing Sonya! Your right, it’s all about pointing to Jesus, the Holy Spirit and the Father! He is so good!

      Bless you!

  11. I met Wayne Jacobsen while visiting my hometown in Maryland and he described the heart he and Brad shared of wanting to meet people where they were at. I have taken three groups to see the movie and most were unbeliever’s. They cried at length afterward and kept stating, “I have never seen a movie like this before”. I love the fact that Brad and Wayne want to meet people in their hardship and pull them out while bringing God deeply safe to hearts. I dream of writing a book that becomes a screenplay and Wayne encouraged me to stay close to Papa’s heart and imagine the possibilities with Him. This podcast is so important for the world and the time in which we live. Thank you for being transparent!

    • Admin Nikki says:

That is so cool Angie! I love how you have taken many people to see the movie, bless you for doing that. With God all things are possible, and God loves to for our dreams to be BIG, so keep dreaming with Him!

Doug has some awesome resources about writing books, here is one http://dougaddison.com/store/books/write-a-book-quickly-1/.

The movie was incredibly healing and so encouraging! The Lords heart for us was so clear in the movie which is the biggest thing of all and therefore the potential is off the charts! I can’t wait for it to come out on video! So many of us will be able to really take advantage of the movie as the amazing tool that it is! God bless all those who hand their hand in it from start to finish!

    • Admin Nikki says:

Yes! I am so glad you enjoyed it. It really was a beautiful movie.

      Bless you!
