What to Do If You Feel Forgotten by God

Have you ever gone through a season of life when nothing seems to be working for you?

You may even begin to feel forgotten by God. You were promised all these amazing things, but they never seem to come to pass.

Your feelings may feel even more intense due to the COVID-19 pandemic and everything that is going on in the world. That can happen when the pressures of life start to intensify. We’re in a Valley of Trouble right now—and I don’t have to tell you that—but it’s going to transform into a Gateway of Hope!

So how can you get your hopes up when everything seems so hopeless? And how can you move from feeling forgotten by God to reclaiming your confidence in being God’s child?

There are a few questions I like to ask myself when I feel discouraged or forgotten by God. I want to share these with you now so you can be encouraged!

What has God spoken to you about yourself or your current season of life?

If you feel forgotten by the Lord, maybe it’s because you have forgotten something. What has God already spoken to you about yourself or current season of life?

Here’s what I mean by that. Many times, God has already given us specific directions about how to get to the next level or solve a problem in our lives. But maybe those instructions seemed small, and we didn’t pay attention like we should have.

“Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say? Luke 6:46 NIV

When in doubt, do the last thing God told you to do. It may seem simple, but sometimes our questions seem hard while the answers are simple. Many of our issues can be improved by simple, new daily habits.

Get real with yourself and God. Ask Him to remind you of what He’s said in the past or check your prayer journal for a clue. The Lord will reveal it to you! Then do what He tells you.

What do you feel inside you are destined to do?

So often we look around for God to speak to us when He’s already placed within us everything we need.

“The coming of the kingdom of God is not something that can be observed, nor will people say, ‘Here it is,’ or ‘There it is,’ because the kingdom of God is within you.”
Luke 17:20–21 NIV

You show that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts. 2 Corinthians 3:3 NIV

You may feel forgotten by God, but as Paul says, you are already a letter from Christ. Your whole life is a message from God. What do you already feel inside yourself that you are destined to do? This is a clue for what to do next.

What Bible verses best match my current season?

Don’t forget that God is still speaking through the Bible! What are some Bible verses that speak to you? Here are some of my personal favorites.

But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. 1 Peter 2:9 NIV

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28 NIV

Begin to declare these Bible verses over yourself and understand that, though you may feel forgotten, you truly are not alone!

Get ready to walk through the Gateway of Hope!

Thank you for this. I am struggling to find peace and joy. Healing is needed, and doesn’t come. Thanks for focusing my mind.

    Good evening Nikki and Doug

I went to church this morning and a colored man said he was going there and I went witj him. It is an Pentecostal church and it was so good to have live praise and worship, just a few songs with a guitar. The message waa s solid and good. I have never been there and the pastor was in line with everything I wrote about and what you are speaking as well. There was just a few people and we all wore masks. He said something of how God was watching over us and those words just brought tears in my eyes so has the worship.

I phoned my father and told him about the church and he was glad that I found a church. I had a nice talk with my mom as well. I told my father how I appreciate him, being my father all these years. I dont think my brother and sister phoned him today.

I phoned my son as well and told him that I was in a shelter again and realize he is grown up and can handle what is happening in my life. He is actually curious in what happens in a shelter and how it looks like inside. My son went to visit his sister this past weekend and they enjoyed each other’s company and shared a dubble bed. She only has a dubble bed and it reminded me how they are becoming close again. It was so special to hear it and my daughter cooked for him and spoiled Markus. When I went through all that drama, the two of them were having a peaceful weekend.

I am talking more to the people and did the dishes after supper as well. I have noticed a change in the atmosphere and people laugh more and they have been very helpful to me. I am trying to manage my time to get things done, my writing always my first priority.

I am going to post my devotion in the evening, it is just quieter and less of a rush than in the morning. Alletta wants me to send my CV to her so that she can help me look for work in Heidelberg. I want to get in a writing routine again and need to find a quiet place to write where I can charge my phone as well.

I am glad I can write what I want to now and share my heart with you like I used to.

Thank you for helping me through all these difficult transitions.

    Take Care

    Lizelle

It’s funny you say Gateway because I sensed something shifted when President Trump held a round table at Gateway Church in Dallas. You can watch the entire event on YouTube. Very encouraging!Nothing like the garbage the media is dumping on us.
