Shawn started the session by saying that he’s been in prophetic ministry since he was seventeen and he’s traveled all around the world. It’s been a journey for him watching what’s happened in the Church and how God has been forming so many people. Once Covid hit, Shawn noticed more religious intolerance and other heavy things in the world. All around the world, we’ve been seeing manifestations of disaster—in political culture, wars, etc., and some people feel as if they’re living through three more world events just this week. Shawn pointed out Isaiah 60:1–3: Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you. See, darkness covers the earth and thick darkness is over the peoples, but the Lord rises upon you and his glory appears over you. Nations will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your dawn. These verses give some promises that as God's light comes on you (His favor, purpose, opportunity and glory), people will come from afar and start going through healing and reconciliation … and then there will be a reformation and a shift in culture. Shawn noted that he doesn’t believe in dominion theology (the teaching that everything will be owned by Jesus before He returns) but he does think we’re in a battle until Jesus returns, and there will be spaces that Christians occupy that will be worthy of His return.  Shawn said that his team is noticing the types of stories that are happening right now. It’s pretty dark how many celebrities are involved in the occult, and the list of people who are involved in human trafficking is a big list. There have been over two hundred high-profile names released. So many things are being exposed right now! This is exhausting to our human brain. We are fatigued by the level of “another one bites the dust.” But your spirit man or spirit woman inside of you should be in anticipation! This is a spiritual anticipation, which is a kind of hunger. It might even feel like a painful hunger. This might look like telling God that we believe and need Him … that we’re so desperate. Shawn emphasized that God is about to move. This level of stuff doesn’t happen without something being behind the scenes. God is preparing something big! Shawn mentioned the Jesus Revolution movie and the Asbury Outpouring. At Asbury College, there was a revival outbreak. Students just kept worshiping for days and people came from all around. Tens of thousands of people got impacted by true spiritual hunger. This awakening wasn’t super charismatic, and it wasn’t driven by any celebrity pastors or worship teams. It was just an organic move of God that caught fire. This is still happening in mainstream and Christian colleges. There’s been a report of over 7000 baptisms—just last year—in college campuses around the United States.   The same time the Asbury renewal broke out, the movie Jesus Revolution was in theaters. The producers tried to get the movie released back in 2020 and 2021 but because of Covid, they kept getting denied. When it was released, it was an overtly Christian movie in the top-ranking charts. This movie inspired hope for what God can do! In the 60s and 70s, when the Jesus People Movement was breaking out, it was a time of political upheaval and there were a lot of big denominational failures and a lot of performance in the churches. Many people were sick of the lack of vulnerability and authenticity. The Jesus People group went into the free love / drug culture because those people were looking for freedom and a true expression of authenticity. This awakening ended up affecting the world, and over 22 million people got saved. Some report those numbers to be even higher! Eighty percent of the pastors today specifically got saved from this movement. This is important because right now with everything going on in the culture with manipulation, darkness, and witchcraft, God is planting seeds of hope in mainstream culture by releasing movies like Jesus Revolution and releasing revivals on school campuses. Some church statistics say that Generation Z can’t be reached, but they’re completely reachable! This is the same thing people said about hippies and yet, they were completely reachable. The last big revival that hit all of America was not church centric or denomination centric. Shawn said he feels like that was a divine setup, and we’re in a divine setup too! It takes God's lens and His perceptions to see the divine setup. It's so easy to get knocked off of what's important if you're not staying focused or staying connected to your passion for Jesus … and your love for people.   InLight Connection thanks Shawn Bolz for sharing his heart with us!
