Why Hasn’t My Prophetic Word Happened Yet?

Why Hasn’t My Prophetic Word Happened Yet?

Doug Addison

Why is it when God speaks, often the opposite happens in our lives.

Have you ever received a prophetic word or encouraging dream from God then suddenly life takes a nosedive?

This isn’t meant to discourage you. Some really good people give up on their prophetic promises thinking they’ve missed it. In reality, God gave you prophetic revelation as encouragement for a tough time.

Opposite world

You’ll find this happens throughout the Bible. Samuel anointed David as king but David was hunted down by Saul for years and almost died before finally fulfilling Samuel’s prophecy that he’d be king. Moses received a prophetic word from God to deliver God’s people but it took years for the right circumstances to play out. Everything looked opposite for Moses.

Even Jesus received the Holy Spirit at his baptism but then he was led into the wilderness where things looked opposite. And the apostle Paul had a powerful encounter with Jesus on the road to Damascus, was radically changed and got his prophetic word. But he went through about 10 years of running while things looked the opposite.

Don’t give up

I want to encourage you: hold on to the prophetic promises God has spoken to you. If the enemy is working overtime in your life, there’s a good chance you have a true, high calling from God.

Why else would negative forces try to hold you back? But, it takes maturity to understand God’s timing. What I have found is that we need to work step by step with God to fulfill the calling on our lives.

Steps to break through

So if you have a prophetic promise that you haven’t seen fulfilled, let’s do this:

  • as hard as it might be, pull it back out
  • pray through it, asking God to show you what the enemy doesn’t want you to see.
  • Next, do something simple towards it. Maybe do some research, read a book, go to a conference, share it with an encouraging friend or agree with someone in prayer.

It’s important to keep God’s promises alive in your spirit. The last thing you want is to be discouraged coming into agreement with Satan over your life.

God’s timing

It is really important to know God’s timing. You’ll want to ask yourself a few things to understand the season you’re presently in. God will take us through times of growth and dryness to develop our faith, bringing us into maturity.

Are you in a time of learning and being trained? Are you in a time of testing? Is the enemy coming against you so you may need to close doors to negative things? Or is God trying to strengthen you to overcome your battles?

What I’ve found is that most of us lack prophetic depth perception which is the ability to understand what is for now and what is for later.

Prayer of breakthrough

An easy remedy is to begin by praying, “God, show me what is for now and what is for later.” I find that when I pray this prayer, I get wisdom and insight over the next few weeks (remember we’re learning timing, its okay to wait a few weeks).

Get ready for God to revitalize your hope in the prophetic word and open things in your life.

Blessings,

doug-sig

Biblical passages, encouraging quotes, testimonies from other people. After a while, none of these things truly appeases us.Hearing about other people’s struggles and victories, does nothing to comfort us.We need to experience, the changes we been believing god for.Nothing changes,if nothing changes.

Bless you Alicia. Often times hearing other people’s testimonies stirs up our faith. I pray that your faith is stirred up and that you see the promises of God come to pass in your life.

How encouraging indeed! I am also waiting for God to unfold the prohpetic dreams he gave to me and that were confirmed in prayer by someone who was not aware about those dreams. I am waiting now since almost nice years.

Hey Anna! Sometimes stepping out, such as taking a class or reading a dream interpretation book might activate the prophetic dreams in you. Doug has some great resources here that can help you get started! Bless you!

I so needed that word of wisdom today. Wow. Feeling much better. The enemy has come against me and my family very fierce to the point that I began to doubt and question God. Thanks for the “prophetic depth perception” explanation and the simple truth about God’s timing. I really needed this. Thanks again. Blessings to you and your family and team!

Doug, thanks for the informative article. Very timely and full of wisdom. I continue to be reminded that when we receive prophetic words, we then go through a process of becoming what was spoken. We have to continue to meditate and meditate on the word. I have found that some of the most powerful prophetic words I received did not happen over night, but the seed of the word was at work in my life. Over time, I have heard myself speaking the exact same words over people in prayer. What was in me, came out of my mouth. Learning God’s wisdom and understanding of how to properly position myself for the word has helped. Thank you! Jarrod

A Word in season to to him who is weary! Isaiah 50:4b This comes to re-energize and strengthen us when feeble to go on and not give up. The Lord said in the parable of the sower that when persecution comes because of the word immediately the one who received the word stumbles Matt 13:21, which word? The prophetic word, the enemy does not want the word to bear fruit in our lives and will fight us because of the word. We will receive the word, understand it (the time/season for which it has been appointed) wage war according to the word. 1 Tim 1:18 and bear fruit even 100 fold. God bless you Doug!

    Doug,
I am in this mode right now. After you prayed with me in the parking lot in Brighton, MI I started looking for that word to come to pass. It’s been a while, but the fullness hasn’t manifested yet (and I emphasis “YET”). The situation I shared with you is at a critical level, but I am holding on.

Thank you . I needed to understand this. I have been standing and trusting God for my break through. Have encountered much opposition to the point of nearly drowning. I am a called out one, and know with out a shadow of a doubt that the enemy is terrified of what my God will lead me to do for the KINGDOM! I will head back to my prophesies and review them and shout Halleluiah thank you Jesus Lord your worthy of all the glory and all my PRAISE. What a difference it is to understand. It is power. Thank you Doug.

“I believe, Lord. Please help my unbelief!” Jesus, we stand in agreement, lifting up our brothers and sisters who have been long suffering in delays and fiery trials. Now, may Your kingdom come and will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven. Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory, now and forever! So be it. Thank You. We love You. We love You. We love You!
